Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister will have his story shared as a biopic, which we should all be excited for. Depending on how things play out, it looks like production could start early next year.
I’m pretty much fed up with the world, so I’m going to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to invest in this Black Sabbath shirt. Proceeds go directly to Black Live Matter, so make it happen.
Ihsahn and Trivium‘s Matt Heafy are coming together for a black metal project titled Mrityu, which I think most of us already knew. Well, we have a real update from the studio to share today.
Varathron has announced a new live album, Glorification Under The Latin Moon, will drop on September 25th through Agonia Records. The album features footage from their 30th anniversary tour.
And we’ll close with a new music video from Kaamos Warriors for “Kuilu”. Their next album, titled Kirous, will be out sometime later this year.

I am writing this intro blurb on Christmas eve, on Lemmy’s birthday and almost exactly a year after his death. Today, the largest newspaper in Finland published a fascinating article discussing Lemmy’s life (unfortunately in Finnish). The article’s lead paragraph notes the failure of humanity to carry on without Lemmy and the shockwave his death created, paving the way for 2016 in all its depressing grimness. Continue reading →

CANTO: Updates from Nergal, Darkest Hour, and more NEMF bands

I’ve decided to start introducing Canto with lyrics from whatever song I’m listening to as I compile these. I’m running out of witty bullshit to say every night. You get to guess the song.

I know we teased this information sometime last year, but new details have emerged. Behemoth‘s Nergal will be releasing a new album this year. Except, well, it’s going to be country/blues. Very interesting, indeed.
Remember when Darkest Hour were actually kinda big? Well, they’re not anymore really. In fact, they are crowdfunding to help support a new album. If you’re a fan, could be kinda cool to directly contribute to the cause.
So efforts have been put in place to get a bronze statue of Lemmy put up at The Rainbow Bar and Grill. And now you can help contribute. And I thoroughly hope you do so.
The 3rd wave of bands have been announced for New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. Oceano, Disentomb, and Carnivora have all been added. If that’s your thing. Spoiler alert: it’s not mine.
Wild Throne have a new music video for “Fear Yourself.” Also not my thing, but I’m sure somebody out there will like it.

CANTO: A new Convulse track, Children of Bodom’s new guitarist, and more

I head to NYC tomorrow. That is all.

This emerged last night after I had already wrapped up Canto, but I still need to share it. Lemmy’s cause of death has been confirmed. Prostate cancer and cardiac arrhythmia. (Sarah with another assist. I guess I’m pretty much useless at this point… but always grateful.)
Children of Bodom have a new guitarist. Daniel Freyberg, previously of Norther, was recently announced as the newest member. He has a good reputation. This probably won’t suck.
Following up from yesterday’s Killswitch Engage tour announcement. The band has added FIVE New York City gigs in early March. Everything makes way more sense now.
I guess I can talk about album sales. A good week from mediocre bands like Disturbed and Five Finger Death Punch. Ugh. Who actually gives a shit? NOT I.
Convulse is back! After way less time than last time! Cycle of Revenge is set to drop in March. But until then, check out this shiny new track called, well, um, “Cycle of Revenge”…
