CANTO: Rammstein, Cult of Luna, 1349, and More

rammstein band 2017

All kine of dings today.

  • 1349 have unveiled album details and a new single today. The Infernal Pathway will be out on October 18th via Season of Mist and “Enter Cold Void Dreaming” can be heard right now.
  • Crypt Sermon fans, if you’re in the NYC area, be sure to check out the album release show for The Ruins of Fading Light. The album is tremendous, which is why I’m mentioning this. It’s October 4th and Visigoth, Magic Circle, and Sanhedrin will also be there. Wow.
  • In case you need to be reminded that Rammstein is all that is, all that was, and all that ever will be… in defiance of the absurd anti-LGBTQ laws in Russia, guitarists Paul Landers and Richard Kruspe shared a kiss on stage during their recent show in Moscow.
  • Oh how excited I was to see this Cult of Luna news sitting in the inbox today. The new album, A Dawn to Fear, will be out on September 20th via Metal Blade. Better yet, we get this video for “The Silent Man” today.

False
False

Sure hope your 4th didn’t consist of off-time fireworks, as in until 1 or 2am for the entire damn weekend. If so, I have a roll of razor wire with your name on it but you’ll have to share with tons of folks surrounding me – no worries, I’ve got many rolls to go around. For those of you who didn’t have the day off or don’t celebrate, I’m sure it was just another Thursday. Anyway, new metal time and it’s another stacked week so here we go…

False turn in a blistering and all encompassing performance on their second full length of long form black metal and in case you missed it: False rule. Torche may be the AC/DC of party-fuzz-sludge but their fifth full length finds them back in fightin’ strength and rockin’ like it’s 2012 all over again (do some diggin’). If you’re still reeling from the battle of the Batushka’s consider this week’s offering as yet another hot bomb of epic, dark, and spiritual black metal to keep the irons of war hot. Last up top, but not least in this list, is the wonderful chainsaw buzz of Swedeath on Burial Remains’ killer debut.

The. Hits. Just. Keep. Coming. Continue reading

Dead To A Dying World
Dead To A Dying World – photo courtesy of Kathleen Kennedy

Didn’t we just do this? Just confirmed and it has indeed been a week. Anyway, much metals to tend to this week and since I can’t manage to figure out where the hell a week went let’s just get to it.

You know, I haven’t had an album completely captivate me as much as Dead To A Dying World’s third full length Elegy has, it’s like listening to GY!BE In one ear and blackened doom in the other but as the minutes tick off it transports your mind to some decaying world that’s all too familiar. And that production, hoooo boy – get this in your ears. Moving on to a pair of albums that excite and charge me; the first is Mork’s Det Svarte Juv which brings the early Norwegian black metal strain roaring back to life in a way that is as cold and chaotic as it is warm and vibrant, yea I know that may be impossible to understand but once you hear it, you will. The second of these is Finnish black metal vets Förgjord who lay down a viciously scalding 41 minutes on their fourth effort Ilmestykset – why do these excite me? Mostly due to this pair being what I want to hear when I want to hear black metal, period. All this leads us to Allegaeon’s fifth outing of technically busy, progressively minded, melodically leaning, and best may I add, Apoptosis. They shed some of their shell here but add so much more depth, Charles has the run down so click the full review link when you get there.

So much more to go and I’m just surprised another week hasn’t gone by already… Continue reading

CANTO: Darkthrone, Cryptopsy, Enthroned, and Amon Amarth

darkthrone

Silver needle, golden nail. It’s a song.

  • We obviously have to start with the big update from Darkthrone. The next studio album from Fenriz and Nocturno Culto, titled Old Star, will be out on May 31st through Peaceville. So much good news there.
  • Cyptopsy are about to hit the road with Aborted, which is enough news on its own. But there’s an extra layer to this one… if you plan on attending one of the show dates and feel like bringing a couple local brews with you to share with vocalist Matt Mcgachy, you could get in for free! Fuck, I want to do that so badly! I love beer AND death metal!
  • Updates from Enthroned, which is a name I definitely haven’t mentioned in awhile. The Belgian black metal group is set to release their next studio album, titled Cold Black Suns, on June 7th. You can check out a new song called “Silent Redemption” right now.
  •  Amon Amarth have released details behind their next album, and coupled it with a new video for a song called “Raven’s Flight”. Berserker will be out on May 3rd via Metal Blade… soon!

Kicker
Kicker

I’m here to show you new metal and chew bubblegum and I’m all out of bubblegum, lucky for you.

And it’s that kind of attitude that Kicker, comprised of seasoned vets across genres (look them up, pal), emits on their rowdy ass kicking, instant cult classic punk album Pure Drivel. Downfall of Gaia inject just the right amount of melody and a heaping dose of thick atmosphere between their blastbeats on Ethic of Radical Finitude, Yerûšelem spits forth a throbbing mass of industrial post-punk laced with black metal and electronica on The Sublime, and Ad Patres go the meat and potatoes death metal route on A Brief Introduction To Human Experiments but with that said, who doesn’t love some well done meat and potatoes death metal?!

More to follow below so don’t get lost in there and hang around as long as you like. No bubblegum in sight so you’re safe. Continue reading
