I have so much delicious music to listen to this coming month. So exciting.
Starting off with some news about a real shit break for Wormrot. They were U.S. bound for a run of shows that included MDF. They made it… but none of their clothes or equipment did. It sounds like things might be turning around, but this is still a total pain in the ass. And it’s not the first stroke of misfortune they’ve dealt with. All the best for these dudes.
Many of you know Cole from Twitter (@KVLTland) or maybe you know him from his Columbus Scene Report, but either way he’s back with his picks of 2017. In lieu of a list he decided to go the video route, and he’s wearing a killer shirt, so without further ado here’s Cole…
With 2017 being a salty, wretched year as far as social norms go, the year did however provide us with a light from heaven (or hell) in the music department. Being granted the ability to transport myself outside my city, I was able to go to shows to see some of my favorite bands in the city of Atlanta, GA. With one show in particular as an honorable mention in my video, this year has brought me closer to metal than any year of my life, which is a HUGE win. If you enjoyed my EOY List For 2017, don’t forget to hit the “Like” button and subscribe to my channel for future content. Continue reading →
Mr. Plow is a band that’s been around since 1997, a time when Fu Manchu and Kyuss were lighting up ears and minds with their heavy stoner rock. And in this long stretch of time the band has released three full lengths and are readying their fourth, Maintain Radio Silence, set for independent release on January 26. The band has always been more about the good times than negativity and this new album is more of the same in that department with rocking riffs aplenty along with some crazy catchy melodies and the title track is heavier than a 55 gallon drum of lead. The guys were nice enough to share their top music picks from 2017 with us so head inside to see what they dug this year.
Saturday is synonymous around here with new metal but if you’ve been following along you know that already. This week was long and slow so I need this as much as you do, thankfully there’s a multitude to get to this week so let’s get after it. Leading the charge is our favorite Finns, ARCHGOAT, with their quick hitter Eternal Damnation of Christ. Two songs of black metal damnation…what? You’re worried about it only being two songs? It’ll be the best two songs of the week, period. Next up is the heavyweights of noise rock Unsane with Sterilize, it’s been five long years but this bludgeoning is worth the wait. Moving on is the monolithically inclined Monolord with their all killer-no filler doom metal on Rust and closing out the top slots is the wickedly nasty doom/black/death debut Cosmos Comedenti from Antiversum. Just because we’re done with the initial volley doesn’t mean we’re actually finished — far from it. So grab a chair and stay awhile, we have much to explore. Continue reading →
Much like the cover of Monolord‘s third full length Rust the contents found within make you stop and take notice. This Swedish trio has been very busy since their 2013 inception and including this album have yet to put out anything sub par. The two rusting monoliths depicted on the album cover speak volumes to the band’s output, it’s no-frills doom metal that is as close as anyone will find to being pure and unfiltered and without a slew of genre tags attached. Put plainly it is simple, classic and traditional doom metal that doesn’t waste any time getting to the point. Continue reading →
