It’s freezing in New York. We just got our first significant snowfall of Winter here, and as it will my listening tastes turn once again to black metal. I’ve been diving into the massive expanded edition of Dayal Patterson’s Black Metal: Evolution of the Cult and DAMN that is a well-researched book. So while yeah, I’m kicking off the 323rd edition of the Nine Circles Playlist with some fun stuff from the recently released Transit Method record, there’s plenty of frost-bitten corpsepaint lurking within from the likes of a double shot from the new Hulder, the most excellent new Farsot, and my favorite track from the Falls of Rauros off-shoot Rhûn.
Elsewhere in the frigid corners of the 9C offices we have new music from SlimeLord, The Last of Lucy, Coffins, and the welcome return of Black Tusk (I still rock hard and loud to Set the Dial). There’s the piercing screams of Attic, classic Death (it’s ALL classic IMO)…hell, we even got a reminder that Skid Row freakin’ ripped back in the day.
There’s so much more this week, I can’t even begin to tell you…okay, there’s also an entire EP from Altar Nocturno to close us out…I told you this week was heavy with black metal.
Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.
