CANTO: Drab Majesty, Tool, Imperial Triumphant, and More

Boston day tomorrow, so we’ll see how long I can keep this post going this week.

  • Tool announced a North American tour, with dates mostly in October and November (preceded by Louder Than Life Festival on September 22). Tickets for those dates go on sale this coming Friday. Maybe I’ll give it a shot…
  • Imperial Triumphant covered Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android”. That single was released through Century Media and comes ahead of their European tour. It’s the first in a series of covers, and the video for it can be seen here.
  • Another tour! Overkill have North American July dates with labelmates Exhorder and Heathen. Those tickets, of course, also go on sale this coming Friday.
  • Italian death metal project Sludge Keeper are releasing their debut, Slough Of Despair, on July 14 through Selfmadegod Records. Give “Mud Keepers” a listen here.
  • I know this matters to a couple folks at 9C (spoiler: I’m not one of them). Drab Majesty is dropping a new EP on August 25 through Dais Records titled An Object in Motion. The video for “Vanity” can be found directly below.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 279 (4.15.2023)

Italian wake last night. Imagine the stereotype, then add legit anguish and cover it in the stifling scent of too many flowers and cologne. Leaving for the burial today, and thank god it was such a killer week for new metal. I’m kicking this off with the new releases that have kept the last 24 hours bearable, including Overkill, VoidCeremony, Metallica, Jesus Piece and Stillbirth – all of which came out this past Friday.

From there the 279th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist has your back with the staff picks: new music from Dødheimsgard, Thantifaxath, Fen, Aodon, Lunar Chamber, Pupil Slicer, and a whole lot more. But I gotta get out of here so the only way you’ll know is to dig in and find out for yourselves.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week…

CANTO: Overkill, Tómarúm, Volcandra, and More

I’m getting this posted as fast as possible and then drinking an outside beer. Because it’s nice out. Finally.

CANTO: Obsequiae, Overkill, Machine Head, and More

Life is chaos, so these may not come around as frequently as they used to.

  • I was psyched to see this emerge today. Check out this multi-camera video of the Obsequiae Fire In The Mountains set. If you look closely enough, you may see some of 9C’s own in the audience and/or photo pit. I personally haven’t looked close enough to confirm or deny.
  • New Jersey progressive outfit East of the Wall are releasing their sixth full-length, A Natural Second, on June 30 through Translation Loss Records. Give “Detonator Gauntlet” a listen over at Decibel.
  • Machine Head announced some upcoming U.S. dates. Public tickets sales for their Electric Happy Hour (Live) tour go on sale this coming Friday. Those links, along with the schedule and any other details you may need, can be found here.
  • Thrash legends Overkill are releasing Scorched on April 14 through Nuclear Blast, and today they unveiled a visualizer for the second single from that collection. Give “Wicked Place” a listen, and watch, right here.
  • Helloween are returning to North America for a handful of dates in May and June, and they’ll be joined by special guest HammerFall. Tickets are on sale now at this location.
  • It’s time for me to move on with my evening, so we’ll wrap up with the latest from Sortilège. Check out the new music video for “Vampire” below. Their recently released new album, Apocalypso, is available through Season of Mist.

I got some Metallica vinyl in the mail today, so it was a good day.
