It’s a Friday. And it’s going to be a long weekend. Hurray.

  • Overkill have released a lyric video for the second single from their upcoming new album, The Wings Of War. The track is called “Head Of A Pin”. The album will be the group’s 19th and is set to drop on February 22nd.
  • Hey! Another new single! This one is from Imonolith and it’s called “Hollow”. This project features former Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory, and Devin Townsend Project members… and honestly I didn’t expect it to sound like this. Interesting.
  • Cannibal Corpse have tapped Erik Rutan to fill in on guitars for Pat O’Brien for the next round of tours. While O’Brien deals with some personal stuff, you can catch Rutan on the Decibel Magazine Tour and the next US leg of Slayer’s farewell tour.
  • Let’s round this day off with some Finnish thrash. This is the new video from Carnal Forge for “Bound In Flames”. Their new album, Gun to mouth salvation will be out next week.

    • Leading off, GWAR has announced its first studio album since the tragic passing of frontman Dave Brockie. The album will be called The Blood of Gods, and will drop this fall on Metal Blade. Here’s hoping for a positive turnout on this one.

Nine Circles ov…”Obscure” Metal Records We Didn’t Review in 2017 (Until Now)

Screen Shot 2017-05-20 at 10.36.14 PM

We here at Nine Circles endeavor to bring to you, our devoted readers, as much razor sharp insight and commentary into the hidden pockets, nooks, and crevices the extreme metal world can offer.  We have burrowed into the underground scenes of Singapore and the Philippines, profiled some of the best and darkest metal labels around, and even reviewed a record or two.

But even our exacting eye and archeological know-how can’t dig up every release that comes out in a year.  Sometimes things get lost in the panoply of splits, reissues, cassette only demos and 800g quadruple sided splattered with the tears of an angel vinyl exclusive.  Who knows how these obscure nuggets missed our Sauron gaze? Lack of marketing funds? Little social media presence?  It doesn’t matter, for in today’s edition of Nine Circles ov… I attempt to shed some light on these obscure, little known bands…

…Lord knows they could use the exposure.   Continue reading
