Spirit Adrift
Spirit Adrift

If you’ve been anxiously awaiting something to get excited about—let’s face the fact that there’s a critical shortage of that—it’s Spirit Adrift week, FINALLY. Their fourth full length is everything you love about them but better, bigger, and just a damn joy to listen to. Beyond that, we’ve got Wayfarer who finally clicked for me with album number four which sees the band really deliver a picture perfect vision of a dust laden, dark Wild West. Bringing forth a killer modern day version of Burnt By The Sun and Origo era Burst is Kneel with their second full length and holy crap I’m all here for it, and prog metallers Calyces offer up an intensely catchy debut. Stellar top four here but there’s much more to explore so head below and enjoy yet another wealth of treasures.

Time for a beer. A root beer. And a water. In no particular order.

The Ocean

I can’t tell if I’m hungover from Friday night, Saturday night, or last night. It’s kinda weird.

CANTO: Abysmal Dawn, Saor, Lord Mantis, and More

Week five of chaos and confusion: commence.

  • Some virtual happenings to share today! The first comes from Abysmal Dawn, who are hosting a virtual listening party for Phylogensis, their new album, tomorrow at 2:00 PM EST. The record officially drops on Friday through Season of Mist, so this a cool, interactive way to get an early listen.
  • The next stream comes from Saor. In celebration of Andy Marshall’s birthday, he will be performing a live acoustic set of Saor songs with Sophie Rogers. I am all about seeing acoustic versions of these songs.
  • Here’s a pretty cool project from Jeramie Kling (Venom Inc, Massacre, The Absence) and Taylor Nordberg (Massacre, The Absence). They are writing, recording, and releasing a new song from different genres each day. Stay caught up here.
  • Lord Mantis tends to be… jarring, so let’s wrap with a new video from them for “Santa Muerte”. Universal Death Church dropped last November through Profound Lore.
