Receiving the Evcharist: Psychonaut/Sâver and 18th Street Brewery’s Psychedelic Lines
We’re back, and this time we’re diving back into the world of good old-fashioned craft beer. Receiving the Evcharist is our weekly feature where we pair choice albums with our favorite libations. Drink from the cup of heresy. This week’s offerings: Psychonaut and Sâver’s Emerald and 18th Street Brewery’s Psychedelic Lines.

The end of March always seems to find me on the road to some far-off destination and folks, this year is no exception. When you are reading this, I will be leaving a night of camping in Northern California and will be on my way up to Portland, OR, one of my favorite places on Earth, followed by a few days in Seattle. I am ridiculously excited to spend some quality time with my family and my partner away from the nightmare hell world that is work. And if you need to spend some quality time away from the cares of the world too, why not dip into this week’s playlist? We made it just for you. It’d be rude of you not to.

Embracing the Descent: March 3 – 9, 2019
If you recall, last week we shared our first Embracing the Descent. As a reminder if you can’t click that link: we briefly discuss somewhere between one and a handful of the current week’s new releases. There is a possibility we’ll look back a week but for the most part we’ll try and keep it current and somewhat regular. That’s the plan anyway. Now, there will be bias because let’s face it: listening to 40-60 albums each week ain’t happening so we’ll be highlighting a select few that stood out for whatever reason. Now that you’re back up to speed, let’s jump into a few from this week and don’t forget to check out the full listing from Monday’s Initial Descent. Continue reading
Initial Descent: March 3 – 9, 2019
A couple of items to touch on from last week: If you missed “Black Brick” from Deafheaven, definitely rectify that and same for “12 Years In the Tomb” from Saint Vitus. They both rip and don’t @ me, all my shits to give are gone.
New business this week — and there’s plenty of it — starts with a rousingly heavy debut album, They Came With Sunlight, from Norway’s atmospheric sludge metal trio Sâver and for a young band, the sound here is massive and so meticulously created it took me completely by surprise. Next up is Rituals of Power from the destructive death metal denizens in Misery Index and even though it is, at times, disjointed and slightly off in sequence it still will cause bruised necks and damaged eardrums. Moving right along, Cloaked Climax Concealed may only be two tracks but the atmospheric death / doom 0N0 presents within is hallucinogenic, otherworldly, and all-encompassing at the same time. Last up top is the debut, Demiurgus, from the star-studded membership of Equipoise and based on the lineup, it’s no surprise to hear the vast, jaw dropping array of technical and progressive death metal they’ve conjured up – inject it straight in the veins.
We’re far from done so stick around for what’s left. Continue reading
