Death, black, sludge, grind, doom, powerviolence, post, punk, hardcore, d-beat, noise — it’s all extreme and it’s all metal, in one form or another. I’ve never gotten the hullabaloo over who’s more kvlt or extreme or METAL. And honestly I don’t care if it hits that particular itch for me. Bottom line, don’t close yourself off narrow-mindedly — experiment and let yourself go a bit, if not you will miss some really amazing stuff. Anyway, we’ve got another loaded playlist for you to kick off a new week with. Head over to our YouTube channel and subscribe then click that play button immediately below to get your fill of what we were listening to last week. Another week down and a new one dawns. Full weekend of good times here and hopefully most of you can say the same. The new tunes from week to week just keep getting better which in turn gives us plenty to choose from, regardless of what genre is your particular favorite. Seeing as it’s Monday and seeing as I’ve got pots of coffee to devour the only thing needed at this point is our playlist. And thankfully we’ve got that covered immediately below and as usual, it’s a good one. Subscribe to our channel here then dive in to experience what we listened to last week. Maybe you’ll find a favorite, or not, but at least Monday will be better. Continue reading
It was an honor joining the Nice Circles team this year. I started a series of posts called A Headbanger’s Journey that I hope to continue into 2018. Late to the party, I bought an absurd amount of music at the end of the year, much of it from the excellent Nine Circles coverage and I’m just now coming up for breath. In 2016 I went back in time to investigate the early death metal classics of the late 80’s/early 90’s and this year, I did the same with classic punk and hardcore. Both of those genres inform my current listening and are reflected in this list. So, let’s see where the rubber hits the road. Continue reading
And here we are. A few more pages of the book before it closes.
Two thousand and seventeen years after we decided to start again at zero it feels like a reset is needed more than ever. That poison surrounds but has yet to work its way into my bloodstream. It’s a selfish ask, entirely due to my own weaknesses, insecurities and inability to take the steps needed to be just a little better each day: as a husband, a father, a writer, a musician, but most of all as a human being. It’s been a challenging year, and I have a long road ahead if I want to keep on having challenging years, let alone any years.
More than ever it was music that kept my head above water, allowed a glimmer of land to guide me ashore. Continue reading
Here we are at the end of the third quarter, well really two weeks into the last quarter of the year. But, who’s counting? We missed some things that we wanted to cover around their respective release dates — it happens. As we do from time to time, a few of us got together to share some albums that we feel strongly about and that should garner more of your time as a listener. Whether you decide to set aside some precious time for these is up to you but we love them and hope you feel the same. So without further ado, here’s our picks out of what we didn’t cover but should have… Continue reading
