CANTO: Silver Lake, Crawl Below, System of a Down, and More

I have a feeling this is going to be a long week.

  • System of a Down have announced a live stream fundraising event to benefit Artsakh and Armenian soldiers injured in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict last fall. That event takes place on January 30th and will be followed by the premiere of the music video for “Genocidal Humanoidz”.
  • Detroit grind collective Shock Narcotic, which features current and former members of the likes of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Black Dahlia Murder, Battlecross, and more, are readying themselves for a live stream performance on January 29th with Scour. Tickets are on sale now at this location.
  • Silver Lake, the solo project of Esa Holopainen (Amorphis), has just signed on with Nuclear Blast. It sounds like he dedicated much of 2020 to recording his first solo album, and I look forward hearing how it all came together. No apparent release date yet.
  • Post/doom metal project Crawl Below released a new video today for “Monument”. That’s a track taken from the upcoming new album, 9 Mile Square, which drops on February 12th. Pre-order it here, and check the clip below.

That superb owl wasn’t superb at all.

  • This came through last Friday but I was too busy doing mountain things. But… holy shit everyone this Migration Fest lineup is absurdBuried at Sea, Falls of Rauros, and Thou performing with Emma Ruth Rundle are the sets I’m most looking forward to. How about you?
  • The Black Dahlia Murder have announced an upcoming tour with Testament, Municipal Waste, and MeshiaakThose dates fall in April and May. I plan on doing everything I can to get to that one.
  • Faith No More, System of a Down, and Korn are teaming up to play a massive stadium show at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles on May 22nd. Additional support will come from Russian Circles and Helmet. That is a pretty damn wild one-off show.
  • And we will wrap up with a new video from Northwind Wolves. This one is for “Lord of Winter and Death”. A little symphonic metal on a Monday afternoon, I suppose. Their latest, Mountains And Darkness, is out now through Black Lion Records.
