The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 164 (1.16.2020)

playlist - mixtape

Clock on the wall says 1am and unsurprisingly cracking a bottle of Henry McKenna 10yr bourbon just feels right as I sample the picks we’ve assembled for this week’s playlist. Don’t judge me, no work tomorrow and after 40+ years of practice my eyes will open no later than 5am so put that in your pipe and smoke it. Anyway, we’ve got a stacked mixtape for this glorious Saturday and I’ve confirmed it’s, as they say, a banger. I bring some new Bloody Hammers and The Crown, Vince brings The Ruins of Beverast and Havukruunu, Didrik lays down a killer Woods of Ypres pick along with new Soen, Ian offers up a Møl cut and an Aara track, and Angela keeps the livestream Goatwhore feels alive as well as a selection from Divide and Dissolve. All that and a ton more awaits behind the play button below, so get after it.

Welcome to another Saturday morning playlist. We live in weird times but great new music is still here to carry us through. Case in point, this week I’ve brought you the newest one from The Ruins of Beverast and Ulcerate (Stare Into Death and Be Still is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated albums by our staff). Anton also brings in the new one from Aversio Humanitatis, which is another album I’m hotly anticipating. And for something a little different, we are including ‘Slaves to the Grind,’ a documentary about the grindcore scene at the end of the playlist. So check out the tunes and get some culture in you, all at the link below.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 88 (7.20.2019)

playlist - mixtape

Hello.  It’s me again, your old pal.  You’ll have to excuse my absence, I was off having the time of my life at Fire in the Mountains in Wyoming this past weekend.  Three straight days of camping, music, revelry, and the most glorious nature I’ve experienced in all my life added up to be one of the best weekends I’ve had in as long as I can remember.  More about my experiences there might be coming later on down the line, provided our own Corey Butterworth makes it back from backpacking in the Tetons alive.  But if you’re curious as to what my weekend was like, I included some choice cuts from some of my favorite sets in our weekly roundup playlist; it is Saturday after all, and that’s why we’re here.  Alongside my own picks are some of the best new tracks that this week has given us, plus just about whatever else floats our collective boat.  Tune in, turn the volume up, and get your weekend started right.

CANTO: Insomnium, Fire in the Mountains, Psycho Las Vegas, and More

insomnium8.31.5

Decision were made this week.

  • This is a couple days old, but I wasn’t here a couple days ago. Deal with it. First round of bands for Psycho Las Vegas. Notables include High On Fire, Yob, and Oranssi Pazuzu.
  • How about another festival? Fire In The Mountains out in WyomingSaor and The Ruins Of Beverast are a couple early names I am VERY excited about. A couple out of three, so far.
  • Insomnium doing stuff! … We’ll leave it at that.
  • Only video I came across in the inbox tonight comes by way of bluesy hard rock something or other 100 Watt Vipers and the song is called “The Bell Tolls Heavy”. Check it out if you feel so inclined.

“Ein Bier… bitte.”
