CANTO: Cryptosis, Voivod, Obsidian Kingdom, and More

cryptosis - bionic swarm

I took a day off from work today, and still barely found time to get this done. Life is hard.

  • Cryptosis have announced a free Bionic Swarm release show tomorrow, April 24th. That starts at 2:45 PM EST, and you can join the event here. That album dropped back on March 26th, and if you haven’t checked it out yet, be sure to scoop it up ASAP.
  • Oh shit, another stream event. Two of them actually! Voivod have announced streaming shows on May 30th and June 27th, the second and third installment of the “Hypercube Sessions”. You can purchase tickets for each event individually, or as a bundle.
  • Swedish prog-rock collective TheNightTimeProject have released a new standalone track, “Merkurius”. That’s available on all digital platforms, but Dronicon Films directed a video for it, so that’s obviously what we’re going to share here.
  • In case you missed the premiere during Roadburn Redux, you can take a peak at a live performance from Obsidian Kingdom for “Womb of Wire” here. That footage is taken from last December’s AMFest.
  • Capra released a new video today for “Medusa”, and that sounds like the right thing to wrap up the week with. In Transmission is officially out today through Blacklight Media/Metal Blade, so be sure to pick it up here.

Best of 2019: Corey’s List

Best of 2019

As I sit here writing out this 2019 list quite literally on New Year’s Eve (I swear I’m later and later with this post every year), I look back a bit and realize that 2019 was pretty much insane. Sure, we’re burning the Earth alive and democracy here is pretty much dead, but from a narrower lens, there were some positives. From a selfish standpoint, 2019 kicked ass. We should all look at the world with a greater perspective, and share in the trials and tribulations the world is going through and aspire for better… for everyone. But within all that, for the sake of sanity, it’s also healthy to look back on personal achievements and moments with some pride. And that’s where I’m at right now. Continue reading

Initial Descent: June 23 – 29, 2019

Beastwars
Beastwars

So, back to reality from last week’s land of sand, sun, saltwater, and relaxation. Ughhhhh. Bills must be paid so here we are. Whatever.

New metal is in abundance which, at this moment, is a very good thing and a very needed thing. Let’s do it… Beastwars returns with an outstanding album — you read that right, BEASTWARS — and you need it, Yellow Eyes are back and continue to keep the american black metal machine exceptionally greased, Low Flying Hawks offers up yet another gaze-y sludge effort, and TheNightTimeProject channels the more rockin’ side of Katatonia which is actually really good.

I’ll be over here perusing at max volume trying to channel last week’s ocean breezes. Don’t mind me, carry on. Continue reading

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 84 (6.15.2019)

playlist - mixtape

Beware the Ides of June.  That’s how that phrase goes right?  Yeah, don’t bother looking it up, I nailed it.  It’s hard to believe that in just two weeks this year will officially be half over.  We’ve been treated to so much good music the last six months, and there’s plenty more coming down the pipeline.  As always, we here at good old 9C have compiled some of the best of those for you in our weekly mixtape playlist alongside the other good stuff we’ve been jamming.  Take a look below and see what suits you.
