The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 150 (10.10.2020) — Eddie Van Halen Edition

playlist - mixtape

Welcome back to another Saturday morning mixtape. This week, we are paying our tribute to the life of one of the most larger than life figures in the world of heavy music, the one and only Eddie Van Halen. Chris has a fantastic in-depth piece from earlier in the week on the Atomic Punk you can and should check out, but today we’re going to let that one of a kind tone do the talking. The world of music wouldn’t be the same without it.

CANTO: Völur, Ilsa, Amon Amarth, and More

Not really sure what to say here today. Where even am I?

Quickies: More Tours, Album Sales, and David Lee Roth’s Busted Face

Hello, everyone. After a rare early weekday off from Quickies, I’m back. And, of course, it’s April Fools Day. That said, I have no idea whether or not the below articles are legit. Let’s be real, I don’t look into these things that much. I invite you to be as skeptical as I am.

The band features Baroness’ Pete Adams, so naturally it caught my attention. Not a bad track, either. The new album, Shadows, will be out May 19th.

Quickies: Albums Sales, a New Van Halen Tour, and the Tragic Passing of Scott Clendenin

Happy Wednesday, everyone. I just want to let you know that I’m listening to Liturgy’s The Ark Work and I’m hating every second of it. Cheers!

It’s not bad. I gotta admit. Their self-titled EP is available now.

Daily ‘Bang: Happy 61st, Alex Van Halen!

Quick: who’s the first person that comes to mind when you think of Van Halen?

99 times out of 100, your response to this question will be either Eddie or Dave, right? But what about that rhythm section? Okay, to be fair, the band doesn’t have much love for Michael Anthony these days, having replaced him with Eddie’s son Wolfgang because golly isn’t nepotism fun? But even skinsman Alex Van Halen, Eddie’s older brother, is often sorely overlooked.

Not here. In honor of Alex’s 61st birthday, let’s revisit one of his (and the band’s) finest hours:

That intro, though! ‘Nuff said. Overlook AVH again at your peril.
