I tend to jump on the opportunity to write about any metal band that includes a female member. I love seeing women represented in the metal scene and I love supporting these badass goddesses. The White Swan has not only one but two amazing, talented female musicians—bassist Kira Longeuay and multi-instrumentalist Mercedes Lander. Completing this trio of musical mastery is guitarist Shane Jeffers. The band recorded their latest EP, Nocturnal Transmission, in December 2019 and have been fine tuning it to production perfection until it’s release this past week. This ethereal, at times dark EP is a dreamy experience with themes of love and all the dizzily romantic and complicated feelings that come along with relationships.Continue reading
In the liner notes to They Don’t Sleep Anymore, the third full length from Chris Pandolfo, aka Clouds Collide, he concludes with “Unintentionally, It’s far and away the most personal album but I am confident it will find a way to connect to people.” That confidence is well-founded, because like his previous albums, and like so many pieces of art that deal with the intensely personal, those details impart a universal connectedness trivial generalities never could hope to attain.
It also helps that They Don’t Sleep Anymore is fantastic; far and away the best (in a series of great things) thing Clouds Collide have released. Continue reading
Last week I randomly ran across a quote that made me almost split my sides laughing. Monday’s are for pick-me-ups so I’m sharing: “Some people just need a high five. In the face. Absolutely. What exactly? Follow along…
Atmospheric and highly emotional black metallers Clouds Collide return with a juggernaut of an album and we got a track premiere (link below) so hop to it, Sculpted Horror keep the old, dingy death metal crypts righteously infected with their new EP, Cable blast out of a ten plus year silence with a new offering of sludgy, noisy, dirgy anthems just in time for the dog days of summer, and Throes get equally as nasty on their full length debut but with hardcore and post-metal thrown in the mix.
Jump in and explore. And, remember the high fives game. It’ll be our little secret. Continue reading
Over the course of two full-lengths, a spilt and ambient EP, Clouds Collide has made a habit of using the intensely personal to connect on a universal scale. It’s been four years since 2015’s stunning All Things Shining and in that time Chris Pandolfo has been steadily building toward another leap in the way his band communicates through the language of music. In anticipation of the release of They Don’t Sleep Anymore on July 26th, Nine Circles is proud to premiere the penultimate track of the album, the massive “Parallel Ruminations.” Continue reading
