CANTO: Altarage, Iotunn, Bridge Burner, and More

One more day and then a four day weekend. Hot. Damn.

  • There are a couple new videos to share today that I’ve been intrigued by. Let’s start with Jaye Jayle, who released a new clip for “From Louisville”. That track was the closer from 2020’s Prisyn, which is available through Sargent House.
  • Spanish extreme metal crew Altarage have revealed new album details. Succomb is slated for an April 23rd release through Season of Mist. Go watch the video clip for the first single from that album, “Magno Evento”, right now.
  • New Zealand’s Bridge Burner have announced their Hibernation Release debut. Disempath will be out on April 2nd and can be pre-ordered here. There are a couple vinyl variants out there, which is fun. Check out the title-track, over at Decibel.
  • And we’ll close with the new video and single from Iotunn. I know Access All Worlds is a release quite a few of the 9C team are looking forward to, so here’s another sample in the form of “The Tower of Cosmic Nihility”. That album drops on February 26th through Metal Blade.

“Ein Bier… bitte.”

Circle Pit: Albums We Missed Q1, 2019

purgatory

I don’t know about you, but 2019 started a little thin and then by the first quarter’s end just exploded all over the good linen like a beast.  This year, more than most, we’ve been a little behind the ball in getting reviews out, but with a lot of new blood coming in I have a feeling that’s going to change soon.  In the meantime we got your quarterly round up right here of all the stuff we wanted to review, should have reviewed, but didn’t.

Until now.  So let’s dive in. Continue reading

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 62 (01.12.2019)

playlist - mixtape

I’m baaaaaaaack.  Thanks to Josh for covering for me while I was away.  I spent a great two weeks back in the icy winter of my home, Chicago, IL.  I got to spend the holidays with all my family, catch up with some old friends from high school and college, eat and drink myself into oblivion, and watch my California-Born-and-Raised partner’s face light up when some unexpected snow flurries blew in.  It was exactly the kind of recharge I needed after the trash fire that was 2018.  I feel ready to get back in the saddle again, and what better way to do that than share all the good stuff I and my cohorts have been jamming over our respective holiday-time adventures?  Check below for a list of tunes to whip your year into shape.

Josh Thieler’s Favorite Releases of 2017

9C 2017 EOY Header Image

Its been a long time since I posted anything for Nine Circles. Of all the things 2017 has been for me, it has definitely been the busiest I’ve ever been. I joined more bands, recorded drums / vocals for other bands, art for my bands and other bands, PR for my bands and others, started a record label, and a bunch of other stuff. I miss being more active with Nine Circles but it looks like the current staff has been crushing it!

Anyway, the time has come for year end list. I love reading everyone’s lists and seeing what albums I might have missed or maybe need to check out again. I hope you find some new music in here you will enjoy. Continue reading
