CANTO: Mono, Insomnium, Armored Saint, and More

Alright, after a some time off I think I’m finally getting the wheels turning again. Not at work, of course. But everywhere else, for sure.

  • This is from last week, but since I can’t get enough of Insomnium I’m going to share it anyway. The Finnish melodic death metal legends announced a new EP, Argent Moon, which is set for a September 17th release through Century Media. In conjunction, they also dropped a new track and video titled “The Antagonist”. Personally, I love the melancholy vibe of the last few singles I’ve heard. This band can do no wrong.
  • Armored Saint have announced fresh tour dates with Black Label Society and Prong. It’s a very brief run of five shows, all out west, from December 27th through the 31st. The only band I’ve seen live out of this bunch recently was BLS, and based on that alone I can confirm these shows are worth attending if you can manage it.
  • Bastardur, the crust punk project from Aðalbjörn Tryggvason (Sólstafir), has officially signed on with Season of Mist and announced new album details. Satan’s Loss of Son will be out on October 29th, and you can preview what’s to come with the new single titled “Viral Tumor”.
  • Let’s close out a very weird day with the new single and video from Mono, who I love dearly. This track it titled “Riptide”, which is taken from Pilgrimage of the Soul. That album is set for a September 17th release through Pelagic Records.

CANTO: Meshuggah, Swallow The Sun, Armored Saint, and More

I have run out of beer. That is the biggest problem I face today.

  • Much like yesterday, we’ll start today with a new tour. Meshuggah have announced a 2022 tour with Converge and Torche. That is an absolutely massive bill. The dates are in February and March, with things kicking off in Silver Spring, Maryland. Tickets go on sale July 2nd and can be acquired here.
  • Finnish death doom masters Swallow The Sun have announced a new live album, 20 Years Of Gloom, Beauty and Despair – Live in Helsinki. The first live track and video, for “Don’t Fall Asleep (Horror, Pt. II) [Live in Helsinki]”, can be viewed here. That album drops on July 30th through Century Media.
  • Krossfyre have set the release date for their Hells Headbangers debut. Rites of Extermination will be out on July 23rd, on CD format, with a vinyl release planned for later this year. Pre-order that beast at this location.
  • We’ll wrap Tuesday up with the new video from Armored Saint for “Lone Wolf”. That track is taken from their latest release, Punching The Sky, which dropped last October through Metal Blade. Side note: they also dropped some slick new merch you can grab here. Enjoy that clip below.

What a week. He says for the seventh straight week.

  • This announcement came as little surprise, but Fire In The Mountains has been postponed to 2021. I say postponed and not canceled because it looks like they are going to keep some of the key elements of 2020’s festival intact, which is great. I am going to do everything I can to be there next year.
  • Killswitch Engage are releasing Atonement II B-Sides For Charity. 100% of those proceeds will go directly to COVID-19 relief, which is awesome. It’s officially on Bandcamp right now, before moving to all other platforms next week. Jump on that shit.
  • Drab Majesty news is always worth sharing, so here they are performing a cover of Blind Melon’s “No Rain”. As expected, it’s a ton of fun. Here’s the Bandcamp link. Also, if you haven’t already, go spend a ton of money on Bandcamp today.
  • Armored Saint has released a new video for “Isolation (Live from Isolation)”, a live re-recording of the track taken from 1987’s Raising Fear. Let’s watch it together, because in all this, I am enjoying seeing bands pull these kinds of things off.
