CANTO: Defiled, Witherfall, Pyrrhon, and More

pyrrhon2020

And so another week begins!

  • As tours are being canceled left and right, with a few rescheduled dates only just beginning to surface, I saw this and thought it was cool. Full Body Autopsy are putting on a virtual tour where they will stream six different sets over six different nights in April and May. Honestly, I’m all over this idea.
  • Pyrrhon have announced a new album set for release on June 26th. It will be called Abscess Time and will be available through Willowtip Records. You can check out a new track called “Another Day in Paradise” over at Decibel.
  • Witherfall have decided to dabble in the alcohol industry for the creation of the Tempest Red Blend wine. They partnered with California winery, Charlie & Echo, to make this happen. Shipping begins on May 1st and is available to order here.
  • Finally, Defiled have released a live video for “Centuries”. That footage came from their performance in Tokyo back in January of 2019.

Initial Descent: January 19 – 25, 2020

midnight 2017

Last week I was reminded that it’s always the small things, the seemingly inconsequential details that usually make the biggest impact. So much so that I’m still thinking about it. Translation here: put an emphasis on the small things and little details, trust me. Any way, NEW METAL is why we’re here and this week is the first ridiculously memorable one of 2020 so take notes. Or just read and click. Whatever. Moving on, we’ve got raunchy and raucous new stuff from Midnight, caustic blackened noise from T.O.M.B., technical death metal (not tech-death) mastery from Defiled, and sweepingly epic experimental metal from Nero Di Marte. Get some. Continue reading

Initial Descent: July 8, 2016

Another week of new releases is upon us. And while it’s a bit top-heavy, the top’s got such quality as to make it a total doozy. What’ve we got up top?

Well, for starters, there’s Inter Arma. The Richmond quintet continue their genre-bending brilliance on full-length no. 3, Paradise Gallows. And guess who’s seeing them tonight at St. Vitus? That’s right — this guy. We’ve also got the debut full-length from Brooklyn’s Anicon, who kick so many different kinds of ass. Gilead Media done good with this one, folks. Also, depending on who you ask, Vanhelgd may be dropping their killer new album, Temple of Phobos today! (They also may not be dropping it until July 22, or may have dropped it last Friday — we’ve been told 3-4 different things and have no idea which one is correct. Fun!)

Plus, there’s some new stuff from CentinexMonolithe…hell, there’s even a Cradle of Filth reissue (reimagining? original imagining?) if you’re into that kinda thing. So enough talk; here’s what’s on tap for July 8:
