Good morning, it’s time to metal. Yes, this thing still exists. Here’s some metal stuff you might have missed from…recently:

    • As per usual, a whole bunch of bands dropped new music over the weekend, including Skyeater, Heresiarch and more. Check out Josh’s recap for the full list.
    • Behemoth drummer Inferno is going to be sitting out the band’s upcoming tour with Slayer to go do dad stuff. Understandable. Congrats to him. Filling in will be Jon Rice, formerly of Job for a Cowboy. I’m okay with this because of the formerly in that sentence.

Good morning, it’s time to metal. Here’s some news you might have missed from over the weekend:

  • As usual, a whole bunch of bands dropped new music on Friday, including Craven Idol, Oranssi Pazuzu and more. Check out Josh’s recap for the full list!
  • Woe and Ultha were kicked off the Hamburg ist Droneburg festival. Apparently, officials at the venue playing host to the festival got cold feet after finding out the groups had once played at a different festival with Inquisition. Never mind the fact that both bands are openly anti-fascist. Just disregard that little tidbit.

Concert Review: Mayhem, Inquisition, and Black Anvil, 2/18/2017

Personally, it has been a slow start to 2017. The first month and a half of the year brought exactly zero concerts and subsequently zero contributions to this particular media. Fortunately, momentum has picked up over the last two weeks and I’m hoping to ride that out the rest of the year. Or until I die. Preferably the latter. Despite the delay in getting out of the gates, I don’t think I could have picked a better show to initiate my 2017 concert (mis)adventure. I was fortunate to not only attend, but also photograph the black metal forefathers/legends/pioneers known as Mayhem as they performed their quintessential debut full-length album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas at the Royale in Boston. Nine Circles Best of 2016 Standard

I am writing this intro blurb on Christmas eve, on Lemmy’s birthday and almost exactly a year after his death. Today, the largest newspaper in Finland published a fascinating article discussing Lemmy’s life (unfortunately in Finnish). The article’s lead paragraph notes the failure of humanity to carry on without Lemmy and the shockwave his death created, paving the way for 2016 in all its depressing grimness. Continue reading →

Another Friday is upon us, and that means another slew of albums for y’all to digest. Leading the way is Salt Lake City’s SubRosa, who return with their fourth full-length, For This We Fought the Battle of Ages. (I just got my copy through #MetalBandcampGiftClub yesterday and am beyond psyched to dive in.)

We’ve also got a new album from Inquisition that contains a lot of words in its title (even more than SubRosa), as well as stuff from German legends Running Wild, other German legends Sodom and German not-quite-legends-but-still-pretty-damn-goods Imperium Dekadenz.
