Interview: Black Sheep Wall on their upcoming album “Songs for the Enamel Queen” and breaking a long silence, Covid effects, long songs, record labels, upcoming plans for 2021, and so much more!

It’s been a hot damn minute since LA’s Black Sheep Wall released new stuff, but thank the sludge gods Songs for the Enamel Queen will be released this week. Seven tracks of devastating sludge, emotionally heavy post-metal, and earwrecking hardcore is just what the doctor ordered for an hour break to hang all your anger, suffering, insecurities, and just bullshit of the world in general on. And it is a BEAST. I can’t turn away from it, the heaviness, nastiness, delicate intricacies, and deeper dive into what their last album “I’m Going To Kill Myself” eluded to in the experimentation department. I had the chance to ask the band about the new album and the looooong silence between albums, how Covid affected them, their love of longer songs, record labels, upcoming plans for the rest of 2021, and so much more. The band was so amazing with their answers and you can tell they really love what they’re doing and absolutely take it as serious as possible, I’ve got nothing but love for them. Nine Circles ov…Mistakes Made on End of Year Lists

Sometimes you make a snap judgement on an album. Sometimes in the heat of the moment with the hype and the accolades you convince yourself this or that record IS deserving of a place on the list. Sometimes that record takes the place of a record you find yourself listening to constantly years later.

It happens. Even when your annual end of year list(s) top out at close to 50 records after all the hemming and hawing is over with. And so for this edition of Nine Circles ov… in preparation of the 2020 end-of-year ranking I look back at my past lists and find nine albums that, frankly, I made a mistake on.

Profile: Michael T of Code Noir

Code Noir, a duo from Greece and Sweden, have had a bit of a rough go since their formation in 2015. The band began with a full lineup but when the time came to record their debut EP, Burn Card, they had to carry on as a two piece. Fast forward to now and the band is readying their second EP, Jack of All Trades, and it seems as though a narrow stable may have been the best thing for them as their hard rock thunder meets blistering metal sound is tighter than ever. Just ahead of the EP’s release we had the chance to pose our set of Profile questions to vocalist/rhythm and lead guitarist/bassist Michael T to get the backstory. Premiere: Neon Scaffold — “Неоновый эшафот”

On October 19th, the split from Neon Scaffold and Gruzja, titled Konflikt, will be released through Devoted Art Propaganda. Today, Nine Circles is excited to offer up the fourth track from that album: Neon Scaffold’s “Неоновый эшафот” (which translates to “Neon Scaffold”). Album Review: Vile Creature — “Glory, Glory! Apathy Took Helm!”

Were you afraid that by signing to a larger record label Vile Creature was going to soften its edges? That the music would fall into more generic genre trappings?  I would venture a single glance at the cover to Glory, Glory! Apathy Took Helm! would quash any and all of those concerns.  After two full lengths and an EP of crushing sludge doom that I could appreciate from a distance, here is the album that refuses to be held at arm’s length, that forces your eyes open to gaze upon its exquisite, grotesque beauty.
