    • Leading off, Wolves in the Throne Room have announced a new album, titled Thrice Woven. The album will drop September 22 via the band’s own label, Artemisia Records, and features a guest spot from Neurosis’ Steve Von Till. Sounds better than Celestite already!

    • Leading off, Noisem have announced the departures of guitarist Yago Ventura, bassist Billy Carnes and vocalist Tyler Carnes. That leaves the Phillips brothers and new vocalist Ben Anft, also of Castle Freak. At least there’s a new album in the bag?

Initial Descent: August 19, 2016

I’m going to make this short, because frankly, I don’t want to spend much time on the internet today. Why? Because it seems like the internet, collectively, has a giant stick up its ass of late, and I don’t really have time for it. (Yes, there are exceptions. Duh.) Here’s an idea, everyone: take a deep breath and try spreading some positivity for a change. We’ll all be better off for it.

Anyway, what’s out this week? Skeletonwitch has a new EP dropping today. Winterfylleth has a new full-length dropping tomorrow. Blood Incantation dropped their debut full-length yesterday. I don’t know, there’s a lot — and most of it’s listed out after the jump, so just check it out there. As I said, I’ve neither the time nor the energy for this right now. So here’s what’s on tap for this week:

Album Review: Myrkur – Mausoleum

I don’t make it a secret that my personal tastes veer towards the “more is more” school of aesthetics. That which is grimy, filthy, and dangerous should be very much so and that which is lush, beautiful, and decorative should be positively overwhelming. All of this puts me in a strange place when considering the work of Myrkur, the bizarrely controversial metal project of Danish musician Amalie Bruun. Her 2015 full-length album, M, garnered no small amount of attention as being “the next evolution of black metal,” always a dangerous marketing tactic given the anti-modernist stance of that particular genre.
