Ok folks, last full week of spooky season so get your scare on…stat. Or, you could go watch this gory bit from Archspire and consider yourself covered. Speaking of… this week’s new metal release list kicks off with bonkers tech death from, you guessed it, Archspire and it does indeed slap, and slay, in equal parts. We’ve got another tech death slab in the form of jazz hands from First Fragment, deep and fuzzy doom from Monolord who stay as consistently good as ever, a new slab of mastometal from Mastodon, and many, many more in the list that follows. Yep, another great week for new releases and yet another long list to keep you busy. Don’t forget to gorge on horror and scary stuff while you’re shovelin’ cash at all these artists, think of it as a treat or treat scenario where it’s a treat for you and a treat for them. Enjoy.Continue reading
Saturday Canto: When I’m on vacation but there’s still too much stuff happening to ignore.
- Starting off with Mastodon, who revealed everything they were hinting at earlier in the week. Hushed & Grim, their new double album, will be out on October 29th through Reprise Records. Check out the first single, “Pushing the Tides”, right now. Of course, I already snagged my LP bundle.
- And then we have Hypocrisy, who have left me hanging for way too many years following the somewhat underwhelming End of Disclosure. The good news is that “Chemical Whore”, the first track from the (finally) upcoming new album, Worship, is fucking awesome. That will be out on November 26th through Nuclear Blast. Another pre-order locked in!
- All about Nuclear Blast today. Suffocation have announced a new live album, Live in North America, which will be out on November 12th. A video for the first single, “Funeral Inception”, can be viewed right here. Some of the photos in that clip are awesome. Jealous.
- Holy crap and then we have Khemmis. Their next studio album, Deceiver, will be out on November 19th through Nuclear Blast as well. The video for the first single from that album, “Living Pyre”, is available directly below. What a wonderful way to end a week.
“Ein Bier… bitte.”
It’s Labor Day but my guess is that a lot of you are laboring away like it’s not a holiday. The advantage of not laboring today is getting a jump start on this week’s list of new metal, otherwise you’ll have some catching up to do. Anyway, for some truly enjoyable and fun heavy metal by way of the good ol’ classics look no further than Vancouver’s Dead Quiet who offer a full length jam packed with it. For anyone looking for soul crushing sludge and doom, Jupiterian have you covered with six tracks of earthquake inducing jams. The Death Wheelers are like listening to a metal version of sleazy outlaw biker movie soundtracks straight out of the 70s but that’s the point and this week’s full length is all that and a bag of 30 weight oil, or DTA in this case. Last up top this week is Mastodon who share some rarities and a new track—-it’s Mastodon so it’s an automatic in for me. Whether laboring away or not, there’s a ton to dive into here, enjoy.
It’s another HUGE new release Tuesday and, naturally, Spotify doesn’t have half of the stuff we want to share with you! So setting aside new releases from Allegaeon and Alraune (not to mention STILL NO new Atlas Moth), here are the albums we’ll be covering on this week’s podcast:
June 24, 2014
Mastodon – Once More ‘Round the Sun (Reprise)
Septicflesh – Titan (Prosthetic)
Incantation – Dirges of Elysium (Listenable)
Tankard – R.I.B. (Nuclear Blast)
Take a listen for yourselves and then check back for our thoughts in Episode 11 later this week!
Live. Love. Plow. Horns Up.
