Good morning, it’s time to metal. Here’s some news you might have missed from over the weekend:

As per usual, a whole bunch of bands dropped new albums on Friday, including Extremity, Valborg and others. Check out Josh’s recap for the full list.

Iced Earth revealed the cover art for their upcoming album, Incorruptible, which drops June 16 on Century Media. Am I the only one that looked at this and thought of Theon vs. Ramsay on Game of Thrones?

CANTO: A tour for The Sword, a new track from Obscura, and more

I’m late tonight because I left work late. And then ran late. Basically, I’m not good at being on time.

The Sword announced a new tour running March through May. They will be supported by Royal Thunder and Purson, depending on which half the tour rolls through your town.
I don’t think there was any way you missed this today. Phil Anselmo has been accused of a racial outburst at Dimebash. He claims it was all a joke. It probably was, because nobody is that dumb, right?
“Symmetry in Black” didn’t drop all that long ago, but Crowbar already appear ready to head into the studio to begin recording new material.
In case you missed this, Steven Tyler has taken credit for the Guns N’ Roses reunion. The band did not agree. Which, yeah, has potential for hilarity.
Hey! Another new Obscura track! This one is called “Ten Sepiroth” and it’s quite enjoyable.

CANTO: Black Sabbath’s final tour, album sales, and an update from Gods of Atheists

One day left. Who else is excited? …Everyone.

The biggest news of the day in undoubtedly Black Sabbath announcing their farewell tour. The tour will hit the United States January and February of next year, with an additional run in Australia/New Zealand in April.
Moving on, we haven’t talked about albums sales lately, so let’s dive into that a bit. An impressive opening for Disturbed, which is in turn depressive. Fortunately, the likes of Ghost, Battlecross, and The Sword all fared well, too.
Pretty sure this came up briefly earlier on one of our social media platforms. But to get into it further, Keith Richards called out Black Sabbath, Metallica, and basically the entire rap community. Basically, he’s a grumpy old man that should stop talking.
I’m going to take this moment to update you all on the God of Atheists project. This is a bit of supergroup featuring ICS Vortex, Ihsahn, Trym, and many others. It’s been a slow moving project, but it sounds like we may have some material come 2016.
I think rounding things off with a Windhand track is a good idea. This one is called “Hyperion” and it’s a bit of a beast.

Album Review: The Sword – “High Country”

So wait, was hating on The Sword always a thing? Sure, the Austin quartet’s always made their love of Black Sabbath a little too plain, and yes, it was starting to get a bit stale, but shouldn’t you just be able to…I don’t know, not be totally into something and leave it be? Oh wait, it’s the Internet. Silly me. Well, good news for fans, haters and everyone in between: the band’s new album, High Country, finally mixes things up a bit — and ends up being a fun little listen. Continue reading →

CANTO: Acoustic Ghost footage is awesome, The Sword’s massive fall tour, and more!

All told, it really does feel like this week is going by quickly. I’m not complaining. Here’s some stuff for ya!

I like starting this with tours, so let’s do that again. The Sword has announced a massive 50-date tour in North America. They’ll be joined by Kadavar and All Them Witches the first month or so before Royal Thunder steps in the rest of the way.
We all know that Bruce Dickinson likes his planes. Apparently he likes selling them, too. The Iron Maiden singer will be selling jets through retail-giant Harrods in London. I’m all set, thanks. Because poor.
Is anybody voting for Rick Perry? Is anybody voting at all? Well, if you answered ‘yes’ to both of those questions, here’s a reason to change your mind. When asked what his favorite Metallica record is, the Republican claimed he had never heard of the band. Are you serious? Are you completely oblivious to to pop culture? I find that absolutely impossible.
For those that can’t wait until Friday to check out Battlecross’ upcoming Rise to Power, you’re in luck. The album can now be streamed in full. Neat. Or something.
