The Nine Circles ov…Ghost

If you think about it, Ghost has covered a buttload of ground for a metal-adjacent band — hell, for any kind of band — in a dozen or so years of existence. They’ve closed out Maryland Deathfest, signed to a major label and won a Grammy award. They’ve weathered a very public legal saga between frontman Tobias Forge (“Papa Emeritus”) and numerous former “Nameless Ghouls.” And now, they’re headlining arenas across the country. Not bad for a largely anonymous group of Satan worshippers!

With four albums under their belt — and, more to the point, with your author heading to the Giant Center in Hershey, PA, to catch them this Thursday — it’s high time we put their discography under the microscope for a Nine Circles ov treatment. So grab a communion wafer and let’s jump in!

    • Leading off, Septicflesh have announced their new album, Codex Omega, which will drop September 1 via Prosthetic Records. You can check out the new single, “Dante’s Inferno,” here. If you like Septicflesh, you should do that. If you don’t, this probably won’t change your mind. But good for them either way.

    • Leading off, Noisem have announced the departures of guitarist Yago Ventura, bassist Billy Carnes and vocalist Tyler Carnes. That leaves the Phillips brothers and new vocalist Ben Anft, also of Castle Freak. At least there’s a new album in the bag?

Good morning, it’s time to metal. Here’s some news you might have missed from over the weekend:

    • As usual, a whole bunch of bands dropped new albums on Friday, including Night Demon and Artificial Brain. For a full breakdown, check out Josh’s recap.
    • Enslaved are hard at work on what will be their 14th studio album, which guitarist Ivar Bjørnson says will take “more risks than ever before” and a whole bunch of other standard-issue PR speak. Either way, color us excited!
