Profile: Bulgarian Death Metallers Grimaze

Grimaze

Bulgarian based groove / death metallers Grimaze released their debut full length, Planet Grimaze, earlier this month and, as you will read below, have been busy touring on the strength of that album. Their sound falls squarely in the middle of Roots era Sepultura and Obsolete era Fear Factory which means it has an insane amount of tribalesque rythym and groove along with a punchy industrial feel. It falls in with the more modern metal of late but tips a hat to its influences extremely well without ever sounding bland or uninspired. On top of that, their lyrics are a call to arms for positivity and change in the way we, as a society, view and see the world around us. We recently shared our Profile questions with the band so read on to see what they had to say. Continue reading

The Nine Circles Audio Thing: Allfather’s Tom Ballard on “And All Will Be Desolation” and much more!

allfather band

Back in September, Allfather released their first ‘official’ full length, And All Will Be Desolation, and if you’ve been even the most casual of fan, it’s undeniable how astounding their progression is on this album. If you’ve followed them since the beginning (No gods. No masters.) as I have, you must have been as blown away as was I. Everything about their doom by way of hardcore by way of death metal by way of sludge is thicker and heavier than anything they’ve done leading up to this, but it’s the way they’ve grown in the songwriting department that shines the most. I’ve been speaking with vocalist Tom Ballard over messages and emails for some time now but recently had the chance to chat with him about the new album, fan interactions and so much more. It was great, after all this time, to finally have a one on one with him so head inside to hear how it went. Continue reading

Second Circle: Slegest and Ævangelist

Second Circle

Life is all about contrasts. Some big, some small, some noticeable and some not so much. But in the end, without them, this would be a boring and laborious life. With that said, for this edition of Second Circle I’m taking a look at two albums that are sharp and stark in their contrasts but both have made an indelible impact on my listening habits as of late and both stood out instantly as albums I’d be engrossed in for different reasons and for some time to come. These albums are Slegest‘s Introvert and Ævangelist‘s Matricide In the Temple of Omega. Continue reading
