CANTO: Abrams, Necrofier, The Wraith, and More

Super late canto because sometimes life be like that.

  • TRVE Brewing’s 11th anniversary event is officially set for June 24 at the Gothic Theatre in Englewood, Colorado. The lineup features Godflesh, Sumerlands, Stormkeep, and more. If I lived out that way… you know I would be there. Anyway, here’s your ticket link (they go on sale Friday).
  • Abrams have announced a run of shows out West with BleakHeart, which covers a good chunk of May. They’ll be promoting their latest release, In The Dark, which is available through Small Stone Recordings.
  • Texan black metallers Necrofier announced a new album, Burning Shadows in the Southern Night, which will be out on June 2 through Season of Mist Underground Activists. Check out the vicious new single, “Burnt by the Sacred Flame”, here.
  • Jesus Piece released “Silver Lining”, the latest from …So Unknown. Give it a listen here. That album is slated for an April 14 release through Century Media.
  • Closing out, we have Nine Circles favorite The Wraith. They’re back with their new vocalist Harley Mace, and a video for “Overthrown” can be seen below. You can also snag it through Bandcamp. That’s taken from Ghost March, which we’ll look out for later this year.

CANTO: Rotten Sound, Thulcandra, Ghost, and More

There was a game on last night that I think I watched? Can’t remember.

  • I’m in a mood today, so let’s lead in with some grindcore. Rotten Sound is dropping Apocalypse on March 31 through Season of Mist, and today they unveiled a video for the new track “Nothingness”. Give it a watch here.
  • This is an interesting tour. Ghost is taking Amon Amarth on the road here in the U.S. this coming August in September. Various presales go live tomorrow, with public sales starting on Friday as always.
  • We’ve got another new track from Majesties floating around, and that’s a no-brainer. Give “Our Gracious Captors” a listen here. Vast Reaches Unclaimed is out on March 3 through 20 Buck Spin.
  • Jesus Piece revealed a new track today, and word on the street is that it’s a banger. Give “Tunnel Vision” a listen here. That’s taken from their forthcoming album, …So Unknown, which is out on April 14 through Century Media.
  • We’ll close out with some Thulcandra. They have a new album dropping on May 19 through Napalm Records titled Hail The Abyss, and the video for “As I Walk Through The Gateway” can be seen below. They’re also on tour with Wolfheart, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Obscura for the next month or so.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 261 (12.10.2022)

End of year is almost here. I’ve been spending the day clearing out all the albums from 2022 I know I’m not going to listen to again. It’s hard: some of those albums were pretty damn good, but I know my mind by now, and it’s the rare record that sticks around long enough to make a permanent addition to my collection. And while I was doing that I was finding some weird and fun music I’d collected over the years I hadn’t heard in a long, long while, so let’s make some room on this the 261st edition of the Nine Circles Playlist for some weird and loud noises thanks to bands like Ex Eye, Grip Inc., and New Keepers of the Water Towers.

You won’t need to bear my indulgence for long. The 9C crew brought the heavy down for you, including Jesus Piece, Conjureth, Hour of Penance, and Moonlight Sorcery. There’s some slightly older fare with the likes of Obsequiae, King Woman, and some crushing Godspeed You! Black Emperor. We go off the beaten path with Emma Ruth Rundle, Chapterhouse and New Order, but come back with some new Zeal & Ardor and much more.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 147 (9.19.2020)

playlist - mixtape

Another Saturday and another chance to look behind the veil of what we’ve been jamming recently. Let’s face it, the world is shit right now BUT, shit in, shit out. So, how about we all hit play at the same time and just float away on the ether of the latest from doombringers Pallbearer, or metalcore from Jesus Piece and FINALLY some new Raging Speedhorn. Same can be said for the new Of Feather and Bone joint and a new funeral doom epic from Frowning. All that and some classic 3 Inches of Blood and Power Trip and Vincent drops yet another The Mountain Goats track for good measure. But, that’s only the beginning so hit that play button below and float off somewhere better than where we are at the moment. Happy Saturday.
