Maaaan, it’s a busy week for new metal. This is the first time since I started doing this column that the number of releases dropping on Friday — not “over the weekend” or “early next week”; today — spanned more than a full page on Metal-Archives’ Upcoming Releases list. And as you might expect from the sheer volume of stuff dropping… yes, there were definitely some gems on the album artwork front. I’ve whittled the list down to six highlights in particular, so let’s jump into that now!

CANTO: Knotfest Roadshow, Hellyeah, At The Gates, and More

Sunday concerts make for tired Mondays.

We should probably start with the massive Knotfest Roadshow announcement. Bands on the bill include Slipknot (duh), Volbeat, Gojira, and Behemoth. Dates throughout the summer all over the United States. I’m not big on every band on this bill, but I appreciate the variety. This is gonna be large.
Hellyeah have announced a tribute concert for Vinnie Paul. It’ll be at the House of Blues Las Vegas on May 11th. I was never a Hellyeah fan, but if you were/are and happen to be in the area, that’d be a cool thing to experience.
I don’t want to keep focusing on Slipknot, but I feel obligated to circle back on that countdown thingy from last week. And you probably guessed it, they have a new album coming out. Release date they are shooting for is August 9th. No title provided yet. So there. All mysteries solved. We can move on with our lives.
At The Gates have released a live clip for “Daggers Of Black Haze”. Let’s watch it. Together.

CANTO: New Gojira video, In Flames/Battlecross tours, and a new track from Opeth

Been awhile, so let’s open with a tour. Or a couple of them. Up first, In Flames and Hellyeah will be teaming up for some North American dates. Dates are in November and December.
Next up we have Battlecross and Allegaeon embarking on the Winter Warriors Tour also in November and December. The cool thing about this run of shows? U.S. Veterans can get in for free. Very cool.
Opeth released another new song off of Sorceress called “The Wilde Flowers”. Give it a listen, if that’s your thing.
And just because this amuses me, Marilyn Manson is going to walk in a path that is similar to many of us and not vote for anyone this coming November. Really though. This country is basically fucked either way.
I’ve really enjoyed Gojira‘s latest effort in Magma, so I’m going to share a new video from that album now. It’s for “Shooting Star.”

CANTO: Obituary, Metallica, Faith No More, etc

More alcohol and metal! Still one of my favorite combinations. Obituary has partnered with Three Floyds to throw a party! Kind of. The band’s beer, called Hopped in Half, will be served at the Brass Mug in Tampa while the band performs.
Metallica will be releasing a book titled “Back to the Front” that will serve as a story behind the making of Master of Puppets. Could be a fun read. It will be available in September.
How about another throwback today? Faith No More have released “The Jungle” footage, live from 1986, as part of a lead into their reissue of We Care a Lot. Sorry, it’s a slow day.
Looks like I have a tour to mention as well. This fall will bring Sevendust, Crobot, Twelve Foot Ninja, and probably someone else across the United States.

Motorhead brand cider is now a thing for all those people that don’t link beer. You can order it here. But… beer is still better.
System of a Down fans should be excited about this. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Serj Tankian has revealed that plans for a new album might be in the works.
Ageless wonders Grave Digger will be entering the studio this summer. Apparently they are touring with Blind Guardian again this fall. You may wanna get on that.
I guess it’s been an hour since we last talked about that AC/DC union with Axl Rose. Well, it gets worse than it already was. Axl has confirmed he would be interested in staying with the band if they want him to after this tour.
