Quickies: New song from Barren Earth, New video from Lord Dying, and Oderus Urungus in Mortal Kombat?
Happy Friday, everyone. Let’s get right into it.
- Dave Mustaine is one confusing S.O.B. Apparently Drover and Broderick weren’t wanted in Megadeth AND he’s been writing radio songs since, well, approximately 1992. Confused? Yeah, me too.
- M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold seems convinced that metalcore has been left behind. 1. I hope this proves to be true. 2. If it is, this is one of the more intelligent things I’ve heard him say.
- In case you’ve missed Barren Earth as much as I have, they’ve released a new track called “On Lonely Towers” that is some kind of special. It’s the title track from the upcoming March 30th release.
- Would you want to see Oderus Urungus in Mortal Kombat? I sure as fuck would. A petition is making its rounds. Rather quickly at that.
- Let’s close things out with Lord Dying’s video for “Poisoned Altars”:
Good fun right there. Anyway, I’m out.

Quickies: 2015 Concerts, news from Not-Megadeth, and a school bus sporting pentagrams. Yep.
So while everyone is getting obliterated by snow, has anybody else felt the need to listen the The Mantle over and over and over… ?
- Let’s start with some concert news. Faith No More will be touring North America in 2015. Of COURSE all the NYC/Boston dates are weeknights. Why wouldn’t they be?
- Here’s another one. Slipknot and Lamb of God will be touring with Bullet For My Valentine and Motionless in White. Wait… why? Is this actually a real thing? (Spoiler alert: …yes.)
- News from Not-Megadeth: Shawn Drover and Chris Broderick have found their bassist in Matt Bachand. An interesting choice considering Matt’s role as a guitarist in Shadows Fall.
- Here is your comedy for the day. A school bus with brake lights that looked like pentagrams caused an absolute shitstorm with some annoying human being. My mind immediately goes back to when William Murderface once said, “reliigggiiiooonnnn”.
- Finally, in honor of my ski trip weekend that included much alcohol consumption to the tunes of Steel Panther, here is said band performing “Asian Hooker” with Marty Friedman:
Dan would be so proud of both me and this. That’s enough for today.

Quickies: News from people not in Shadows Fall or Megadeth. That list of 10 year old albums is kinda fun…
It’s the Monday before Christmas! I wish my excitement was genuine!
- Following up on MetalSucks’ list on albums that will be 20 in 2015, here’s a list of albums that will turn 10 in 2015. Hypocrisy, Rammstein, and Opeth all represented. Still cool. Still feel old.
- The news out of the Phil Rudd just won’t cease. Apparently he’s convinced he’ll be going back to work with AC/DC… we shall see…
- So those Shadows Fall members have been finding new work. Flotsam and Jetsam have recruited their drummer, Jason Bittner. Curious how long this ‘hiatus’ will last.
- Most of us know by now that ex-Megadeth members Chris Broderick and Shawn Drover and begun a new project. They’ve recently announced that their vocalist will be Henry Derek Bonner. Hmmm…
- Not much doing in the way of new music videos, so here’s some shit from Marty Friedman:
I don’t care and neither do you.
“Ein Bier… bitts.”

Quickies: More Boo-Hoos from Wintersun, Obscura News, and More
It’s Friday, I’m tired, and I’ve got a bus to catch, so these will be brief. Here are today’s Quickies–let’s see what we missed in the metal world today:
- Remember yesterday’s Quickies, when it seemed like Jari Mäenpää had quit his whining and started to focus on recording new Wintersun things? Well…that statement was a bit premature, because here he is complaining again. On Facebook, no less.
- Good news from Obscura: they’ve started pre-production on their follow-up to 2011’s Omnivium! I’ve no idea what this interactive project might be, but color me intrigued either way.
- Also in remember yesterday: that new Chris Broderick / Shawn Drover project? Welp, it’s got a vocalist: former Scar the Martyr frontman Henry David Bonner.
- Veil of Maya is going to be releasing…something…on January 1, 2015. Which is good news if you care about Veil of Maya. (We don’t.)
- And finally, here’s a parody of Ghost’s “Year Zero” that we never knew we wanted:
I’m gonna go sleep for the next 34 hours. Enjoy your weekends, folks.
