This week, the loopy conspiracy theory cottage industry surrounding Bill and Hillary Clinton crossed paths with the Bringer of Light this week, when Snopes put the kibosh on allegations Chelsea Clinton was spotted wearing an inverted cross. Apparently, this meme is nearly a decade old, but was sparked again by social media posts. Nevertheless, it is false… unless you believe (as some do) that Snopes is the Illuminati or somesuch.
Also this week, a Satanic Temple member’s essay on the latest Catholic Church scandal garnered some attention. A proto-atheist’s opinion on Catholics probably does not weigh in for much to most people, but the abuse controversy is sure to grab headlines, and thus might be worth your attention.
Speaking of random, if you have wondered about Marilyn Manson’s reported priesthood in the Church of Satan, founded by Anton LaVey, wonder no more.
Among black metal releases this week, Greyhaze Records reissues today black thrashers Sarcófago‘s The Worst for the first time on vinyl and cassette. The 1996 album is regarded as ahead of its time for drum machines and other innovations that were unusual for the period. Also out today, Ulven from Akron, Ohio conjure classic black metal sorcery on its new album Death Rites Upon a Winged Crusade via Folkvangr Records. The act is a one-man project of Sean Deth, who blends black metal and death metal in this release. “Night of the Long Knife” is featured on this album:
And last but not least, Finland’s Morketida released its new album, Panphage Mysticism, last week through Werewolf Records. This is a followup to the group’s 2012 demo, and early reviews suggest it was worth the wait. You can stream the album now via Bandcamp.
