Afternoon, metalheads. Hangovers treating you okay? A new Sunday Side-Splitter should help fix that. This week, we’re going to take a look back at an old favorite of mine–a video called “This Drummer is at the Wrong Gig.” Check it out:
What I enjoy most about this video is trying to figure out exactly what kind of audience the band was playing for. The song and band choice (“Sharp Dressed Man,” by blues rock legends ZZ Top) would, on its own, suggest an older crowd. The over-enthusiastic emcee only lends further credence to that hypothesis, as do the guitar and bass player both being middle-aged looking guys. So who’s getting this? Other middle aged people? Senior citizens? (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be the latter. Seriously. Please.)
But then there’s the more obvious stuff here: the drummer’s physical antics behind the drum kit. Whether it’s his normal cymbal slams, or his more advanced moves–which I’ll call the tornado, the robot and the windmill–the dude’s either just naturally hilarious or on some next-level drugs. Maybe both. But it’s hard not to watch him and laugh your ass off the entire time.
Anyway, that’ll do it for this week. Get some bacon and eggs, and enjoy the hangovers!
Live. Love. Plow. Horns Up.
