Another Thursday, another Throwback. It just so happens that in conjunction with this particular #tbt, the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s classic final album, Electric Ladyland, turns 46 today.
Was Jimi metal? Okay, not really. But you can’t tell us his innovation on the guitar didn’t have an influence on what the genre would become just a few years later. (You really can’t. Just stop trying.) And since we’re no strangers to Mr. Hendrix on this blog, I see no reason not to honor this gem of an album on its birthday. So here’s one of its hallmark tracks: the Experience’s cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower.”
Rock bands new and old, take note: THIS is how you do a goddamn cover song. It’s unmistakably still a Dylan song, yet also unmistakably Jimi. Classic.
Anyway, happy birthday, Electric Ladyland! That’ll do it for this week’s #tbt–check back later on for Quickies!
