Is it really all that crazy to give your number to someone and expect them to call you? For those over the age of thirty it probably seems commonplace. Because long before human beings were swiping left and right trying desperately to generate some form of fleeting companionship, most people actually met and traded phone numbers. It was even commonplace in as recently as the late 1990s. Well, Canadian-born America’s sweetheart Carly Rae Jepsen certainly thought it was crazy on her breakthrough hit, “Call Me Maybe.” And now, three years later, she’s back with her third studio album, Emotion.
As with any pop album, there are highs and lows on Emotion. The lows, of course, are insufferable songs that are not worth the three minutes of time they take to unfold. On the other hand, the highs are heart-pounding anthems sure to provide an aerobic workout. Danceable, laughable and quirky, Jepsen provides an escape for metalheads and hipsters alike. Enjoyment of pop-music such as Jepsen’s may be rooted in irony but there is a more than a tinge of reality in enjoying her work.
So all that is left is to provide a fun name for her fans. The best I’ve seen circulating the Internet so far has been “Carly’s Raeders” (courtesy of @h0rcrux). Which…not bad! All the Raeders out there: enjoy the new album and look forward to more hits from the plucky Canuck. For now, here’s Emotion‘s lead single, “I Really Like You.”
