Ok. Today we are going to rip through a short 7″ by Sacrocurse. Just a bit of the old ‘in and out’ if you know what I mean. It’s pretty tough to not cover stuff like this. A brief album, four quick songs, a kickass cover and a really, really fun sounding title, Destroying Chapels. While Nine Circles does not enjoy the actual destruction of property, we do find it fun to dream, pretend and fantasize about a life in which the music of our dreams is the reality of our days. So, without further ado, let’s take a quick look at Destroying Chapels.
This little guy is a ripper. Sacrocurse hasn’t been around forever. In fact, they’ve only been around since 2012. In those short three-ish years they have dropped only one full-length in addition to a few EP’s. They have, however, consolidated their power. No longer splitting time between Mexico and Turkey they are now firmly ensconced in the Mexican blackened death metal scene. Which is good since their brand of brutality is classic South American black/death metal.
The album tears out of the gate with screams and closes with a cover of Bathory’s ‘Total Destruction’ (off Bathory’s 1985 release ‘The Return’). The cover is a clue to which era Sacrocurse draws it’s inspiration from. There are furious blast beats, whammy bar-laden guitar solos and tons of bestial growls and tears for the vocals. The title track is probably the best representation of the band’s sound. It’s a chaotic, furious and forward marching tune spanning just under three minutes of time. If you’re familiar with the Sacrocurse sound then picture Destroying Chapels as a more chaotic, fast-paced and direct version of their 2014 LP Unholier Master. The production is what really makes this one standout.
At any rate, this album is an absolute fire eater. Definitely check it out, turn it up as loud as your audio setup will allow and then set everything around you on fire.
