Visions ov Hell: Dust Bolt – “Mass Confusion”

Dust Bolt - Mass Confusion

Call it my schtick or whatever but I like to extend the good time feeling of the weekend and nothing better to do that with than some fun, high quality thrash metal. I mean, Monday’s are hard enough so why not have a little fun with it. With that said, for this Visions ov Hell we take a look, and listen, to the latest video for “Mass Confusion” from Germany’s Dust Bolt. Consequently it’s the title track off their just released third full length. As we’ve seen with the plethora of really great throwback thrash these guys do it like its the late 80’s and early 90’s.

If that last statement perked your ears up then you’re in for a treat. Listening through this track reminds me of the first time I found out what the Bay Area sound was all about. Granted it’s nothing new, particularly when we’ve seen some stellar releases this year of the same ilk. However, the band absolutely brings it with the early Slayer riffs (think Reign In Blood), blazing fast drumming, and deep yelled vocals. Plus they’ve got that skater punk vibe going on that’s always a ton of fun. The production is razor sharp and clean as a whistle, all the leads and solos come through sounding huge — big plus for thrash.

As for the video filmed by Niklas Niessner, it’s a whirlwind of rainy, dreary city scenes and several live performance shots of the band. The Suicidal Tendencies hat on display in the varied city shots is a good touch considering the music and vibe. The band have finally found their sweet spot and put out the album they’ve been aiming at since winning Germany’s spot in the Wacken Open Air (W:O:A) Metal Battle in 2011. No doubt they were good then — they did win after all —  but now they are worlds better. And the difference shows in the first minute. So start your Monday off with a smile and a little bit of whiplash, go hit that play button below…
