It’s Thursday! Too early to call it Thirsty Thursday? Probably! Too early for a #tbt? No chance in Hell! It’s the second full week of 2015 and we have an important birthday to celebrate…
Tool has been coming up quite a bit in the headlines recently. Most of that has been centered around news of a possible new album. Or, more accurately, non-news. Everyone’s sitting on their hands in anticipation of that already, so we won’t be touching on it any further. Instead, we need to wish a happy 50th to guitarist Adam Jones!
I can’t think of another musician that can even remotely paint sound as well as this guy does. Yes, I just described Adam Jones as a sound painter. And you know you agree with that assessment. But in all reality, what he has given us over the years with Tool, and even The Melvins for a spell, is something we should all appreciate. So I want to take this chance to look back at one of my favorite live Tool clips. I give you “Sober,” from the Reading Festival 1993:
Once you accept Maynard’s pink onesie, it’s easy to see how impressive this performance was. And that was 22 years ago! God we’re old. Anyway, one more time—happy #tbt, and happy birthday Adam!
“Ein Bier… bitte.”
