Bit of a “throwback” here. Red Fang’s “Wires” is off their 2011 triumph, Murder the Mountains. These fun-loving, bearded beer-guzzlers make super fun, riff-laden rock. Music much more appropriately suited for consuming a 30-Rack than demolishing a bowl or two with your buddies. Regardless, their music kicks butt, even if you are a teetotaler, non-drug user, or both.
“Wires” reveals a humble, gracious and lovable band. A band that is genuinely friends. Now that they have “made it” (signed to Relapse Records), a check arrives in their mail for a whopping $5,000 representing their video budget. The video is a sort of countdown of how that money is spent by four awesome dudes. Not by the likes of Maroon 5 or John Mayer—Red Fang is not overly impressed with themselves. Rather, they do what any sensible human being would do: purchase a car, junk food, and beer and proceed to use said car to absolutely annihilate piles of stuff on an abandoned airport runway.
And not just any car—a 1979 Impala Station Wagon which they modify by soldering a sort of ramming mechanism / push-bar onto the front grill. And no item is off-limits. The crew drives full speed into stacks of milk (which is extremely pleasing), mannequins, jars of pickles, champagne glasses, a hutch full of delicate china, blow-up balls filled with paint, a drum set, a pinball machine and sadly, even a large palette of PBR (although they make sure to shotgun a few first) . Fortunately for us, a camera inside the car captures the childish, anxious and drunken faces of the band as they approach their targets at full ramming speed.
If you don’t enjoy watching this video then you have no soul.
