Alright, so Turin (formerly This Is Turin) are releasing The Unforgiving Reality In Nothing tomorrow through MNRK Heavy, and it is some grade A stuff. I guess you could call it deathcore if you want, but I don’t think that gets the job done. It’s massive. That’s what it is. It simultaneously fills every inch of attainable space while taking the care and precision to really sink its hooks into you. As deep as they could possibly go. I’m obsessed. So yeah, that’s out tomorrow and needless to say we’re proud to present Turin as our latest Profile here at Nine Circles in anticipation of that release. I don’t think I need to tell you what to do from here. Read up on the awesome responses below to familiarize a little more with the project and absolutely keep this one at the top of your release day list tomorrow.

How and when did you first get into playing music, or metal more specifically, and how did your band get its start? Any pushback from family/those close to you?
We’ve had a few name changes over the years but the band started in 2002, Daz and Hayden are the GOATs and have been in it from the start. We’re all in this for the same reason which is we love music, what started as a hobby when we were kids is now more of a life choice and something we are determined to keep pushing. We’ve all had incredible support from friends and family over the years, I wouldn’t say we’ve had any push back but I remember being sat down in my early 20’s by my Dad and being asked if all the late nights gigging, money spent on equipment and putting my 9 to 5 career on hold was worth it – obviously I said it was and completely stand by that!
How would you describe your band and what you play to someone who is completely in the dark?
We’re something completely different to anything you’re listening to right now, we mix deathcore with death metal and add in our own flare to give listeners something unique! If you like blast beats, breakdowns, solid choruses, heavy riffs and something to bang your head to then check us out!
Is there one (or more) thing about your latest / upcoming album or about your band that no one will find in any interview or review that you care to divulge?
I’ll give you one thing about the band and one thing about the album! Until recently we were called This Is Turin, we came up with this after watching a UK Most Haunted TV episode with the infamous Derek Acorah – he was doing a bit on the city of Turin and how it was classed hundreds of years ago as the most sinful city in the world (according to the Church) and the residing religious leader at the time requested the entire city to be exorcised of its demons… we thought naming the band after the most sinful city on the world would be pretty cool! For the album, originally we wanted to write a concept album about the 7 deadly sins, we had loads of demos all relating to the sins but when the song “The Unforgiving Reality In Nothing” came along it completely changed our direction and we pushed forward without a concept and just writing the best music we could (this is where tracks like “Envy” and “Loss” came from!)
Any funny stories from playing shows / tours / festivals, etc?
Way too many to list and some definitely not suitable for publishing! We’re 5 lads in a metal band so the usual of getting too drunk and passing out in stupid places has happened… a lot. I remember one time we were heading out on a short tour and for some reason we hadn’t been able to rent a splitter van with enough seating so one member had to sit in the back with the equipment. We were heading to the first show with Daz our vocalist in the back and a 12 pack of beer, he thought it would be a great idea to drink a fair few not realising we had a fair few hours driving ahead of us. He ended up needing a stop early on and because only the few of us on the seats behind the driver could hear him we decided to teach him a lesson and ignore his constant ask for us to stop! As you can imagine he wasn’t happy and when we did stop our bassist J opened the back doors laughing at him not knowing he’s pissed in a bottle and was ready to throw it at whoever let him out… our bassist is 6”5 and a big lad… to this day we’ve never seen him run so quick in his life!
What do you see as some of the great things happening in and around the metal scene (yours or just in general) and what are some of the worst things happening right now?
What’s been great to see over the last few years is the scene re-building itself after COVID, the music industry got hit hard, especially venues and their bookers so now seeing that new venues are popping up again, new festivals are starting and seeing sold out on gigs is happening more and more is just incredible, particularly as we’ll be hitting the road again soon! On the flip side of that what has been sad to see is bands, festivals and venues calling it day either for their own personal reasons or because its been to hard to keep going.
Most folks have passions for a cause or causes that are close to them. What, if any, are some of the most important issues (social/political/humorous/etc.) for you / your band and how do you insert those issues into your music?
We’ve been fortunate to support a wide variety of charities playing shows and being part of collabs like the PuckDrop x Ukraine Ambulance Project activity that we were involved in during 2022. The Sophie Lancaster Foundation always hits hard with us, that charity has done so much to raise awareness and I feel the metal scene gave just as much if not more support back especially institutions like Bloodstock Open Air.
Do you have day jobs or hobbies you want to share?
Our 9 to 5 jobs are there to pay bills, we work for a mix of corporate, public sector and private companies that we do our best to keep away from our true life which is this band! Hobbie wise our vocalist Daz is a die hard Evetonian football fan, Davey is a beer connoisseur and is making his own hot sauce recipe.
What advice do you have for music critics and outlets out there? How can we all better serve the genre in the eyes of a hard-working musician?
Keep the community going, networking plays such a big role in improving the scene and helping bands move forward and get seen by new people. If you like a band let them know, book them on a show, give them some advice or share their music!
Any specific long term goal(s) in mind?
We want to start ticking off some more bucklist items like playing Download, playing in the US or Japan and write a second album!
When you’re not obsessing over your own material, what are some of your favorite albums to listen to currently?
For me at the moment I am obsessed with Silent Planets new album “SUPERBLOOM”, I have that on constant rotation! I’ve also started to re listen to the Bleed From Within back catalogue again, those lads are incredible song writers!
What is the near future outlook for you or your band? Any specific events on the horizon that the masses should be aware of?
The main one for us at the moment is the album release on 12th July, we’ve been planning this for a year now so its all we’re thinking about, soon after that it will be sorting shows across the UK and Europe.
Summarize your band in one word.
Heavyweights.
