Consider this day officially humped. About to head home and get set to record Episode 15, but why not have a little Quickies first? See what I did there? Ha! Of course you didn’t. Anyway, here’s what we missed in the world of metal today:
- Let’s kick things off with a tip of the hat to Indonesia, who yesterday elected the world’s (presumably) first metalhead president, Joko Widodo. Better yet, the BBC claims Widodo is seen as a “clean politician in touch with the masses.” Golly, what a concept!
- Today’s second hat-tip goes to the UK justice system, which rightly denied the pile of human excrement known as Ian Watkins his appeal for a reduced prison sentence.
- Ozzy Osbourne announced another Greatest Hits compilation, titled Memoirs of a Madman. Because, you know, The Ozzman Cometh, The Essential Ozzy Osbourne and Prince of Darkness weren’t enough.
- This week’s Billboard chart is out, and…meh. Not much to see here. But I’d be lying if the nine-year-old in me wasn’t kinda pumped to see Weird Al Yankovic hit No. 1.
- Cue collective groans from metalheads the world over, as the members of Castevet have announced they’ve broken up.
- And finally, Rolling Stone filmed a video “lesson” with Animals as Leaders guitarist Tosin Abasi for its “Young Guns” guitar hero series. Check it out:
If ever you wanted to feel totally musically inadequate, the tapping lick at around 6:40 should help get you there just fine. Anyway, that’ll do it for today. Check back tomorrow for a new #tbt!
