Quickies time, folks. I’m about to head out and catch Nine Inch Nails–which will almost certainly come up in next week’s podcast–so let’s not waste any time. Here’s what we missed in metal today:
- After what felt like 800 different 10-second trailers, Slipknot finally posted its new song “The Negative One” for streaming on its website. Sounds more like “The MEH-gative One” to me. HA! Get it? I’m horrible.
- Well that didn’t take long: just a few weeks after welcoming back vocalist Steve Souza, Exodus officially announced the title and cover art for their new album, Blood In, Blood Out. Looks like fun, doesn’t it? The album drops October 14 on Nuclear Blast.
- And today in “stories that probably shouldn’t be stories,” Iron Maiden fans have started a petition to get the band to bring back longtime album cover artist Derek Riggs for future releases. Never mind the fact that it was Riggs that decided to part ways back in the early ’90s. Not, you know…the other way around.
- Prepare to get brutal: Belphegor, Rotting Christ, Beheaded and Svart Crown have announced that they’ll be touring together this fall.
- And finally, Opeth posted another new song off their upcoming album, Pale Communion. Check out “Eternal Rains” below:
Think this one’s gonna require a few more listens before I start forming a proper opinion, but hey…it’s still better than Heritage! Anyway, that’ll do it for now. Keep it heavy this weekend!
