decapitatedveins

It’s been well over a year since Decapitated‘s latest effort, Blood Mantra, was released. September of 2014, to be more precise. While 2015 may have been a slower one in terms of new music for the technical death/groove metal band out of Poland, they could still be found touring throughout the year, most notably with Soulfy. Now, in an effort to stay active into the new year, they have kicked 2016 off with an interesting new video for “Veins” from the aforementioned Blood Mantra

I’m not exactly a technical death or groove metal fan, so I won’t get into too many specifics about the song. There is some stuff I like, and this is overall pretty solid. Unrelenting, punishing riffs and percussion carry this track through five brutal minutes in a fantastic way. The sound is actually fairly straightforward. There are some tasteful breakdowns and instrumental interludes within the chaos, definitely making this a groovier showing. But it’s a solid track, all in all. So that’s cool.

The video is where it gets interesting. A clever use of black, white, and what is probably best described as a toxic green come together in an animated clip. The artwork is simple, solid lines, limited detail, etc., but tells the story effectively. In this story, helpless… Humans? Test subjects? Are injected with a green liquid that evidently fuels some cyborg foot soldiers in some apparent war taking place elsewhere. Except, as always, these things turn against the humans and this whole story ends in what appears to be nuclear holocaust. It gets pretty aggressive.

Anyway, that’s all I really have to say on the subject. Take a look believe and determine your own opinions. It’s worth watching either way.
