With their formative years of the early 90s spent lurking in the shadows of the underground Austrian extreme metal scene, it goes without saying that the Cadaverous Condition journey lent itself to some distinct twists and turns. And yet after all those years of exploration and collaboration, without any semblance of (or need for) creative restraint, they emerge in 2024, at least initially, as an old school death-doom entity — as if in reinforcement of what they are at their core. But we won’t need to wait long to experience what else they might have in store for us. On June 14 they’ll unleash Never Arrive, Never Return on the world through The Circle Music. For now, as we continue to build up to its release, Nine Circles to proud the reveal the lyric video for the latest offering from that new album, titled “The Eternal Burial”. Give it a watch and listen immediately after the jump.

Let’s unpack all of this for a little bit. I, for one, will always have a place in my heart for the more, I don’t know, depressive side of death metal I guess you could consider it. You know what I mean. That certain balance of raw intensity and pensive bleakness. It’s what I’m drawn to here on “The Eternal Burial”. The impact is in the straightforward, in-your-face nature of these grooves and the weight of the brooding atmosphere filling the space around it all. Dark… rhythmic… dense… and we get a visual experience to match it in both the artwork and this particular visualizer. The only intent is to force a downward march into nothingness and it’s something Cadaverous Condition have no issue accomplishing. The galloping procession to the end, and the leads layered within these final moments, only re-emphasize that intent. “The Eternal Burial” arrives, does what it needs to do, and departs without a wasted moment. Simply put, this works. Quite well. It might suck the light out of you, but you’ll be banging your head the entire time. Seems like a fair trade-off.

And what if I told you “The Eternal Burial” was among the more aggressive forms that Cadaverous Condition take on Never Arrive, Never Return? It’s true, but you’ll need to wait a little longer to hear just how much doom, and even folk, influence what is still fundamentally a death metal record overall. If you want another glimpse of what’s coming, “They Came From The Hills”, the first single from (and first track on) Never Arrive, Never Return, was revealed a month ago. But otherwise as a reminder this one is out on June 14 through The Circle Music. Physical pre-orders are available here, or you can go the digital route here. Feel free to give Cadaverous Condition a follow on Facebook as well if you feel so inclined.
