walking bombs - blessings bestride pt 1

I love it when I come across a band that refuses to ascribe to genre labels and I have no idea how to express the joyous noise Walking Bombs creates except to tell you to click the link below and check it out. Nine Circles is stoked to be premiering “Mountain Giantess” the latest single from the band’s (well, solo project/collaboration noise party) forthcoming album Blessings Bestrewn Pt. 1. Blending (blessing us) with a potent mix of pop, rock, noise and dance alongside a heady dose of electronics to flesh out the sound, primary instigator Morgan Evans doesn’t shy away from pointed commentary, and “Mountain Giantess” is ablaze with it, so check it out below and hear from Morgan about the song’s genesis.

Let’s get to some quotes!

“The song ‘Mountain Giantess’ was so much fun…I always loved Mountain Giants from the original Dungeons & Dragons setting. What if our pollution awakened a really powerful, she-giant sized Greta Thunberg and she came to whoop ass? Sometimes rock needs to examine those kinds of things!”

Morgan continues with the song’s more sonic inspirations:

“I know Steve Markota from when he was in one of my favorite punk bands ever Nightmares For A Week. He plays in popular stoner band Geezer now. I thought it would be awesome to have Ash play Deep Purple-esque organ and pair it with Steve’s groovy drumming for a kind of boogie-rock meets Soundgarden Ultramega OK homage and one of my most Chris Cornell meets Dio inspired vocals. I got my dear friend Dava Nasr of Cycle Sluts From Hell/Star & Dagger fame to play heavy blues guitar on it. The drums were recorded in a small room during an insane thunderstorm. Lightning was flashing and trees were crashing down all over the roads outside! Pretty great summation of nature’s wrath!”

Having gone through “Mountain Giantess” and the other singles released so far (check out the fuzzed out tones on opener “Mirror Mosh”) multiple times I can’t wait to hear the whole thing and get my brain blitzed by the veritable grab-bag of sounds and styles Evans and their collaborators are going for. This is one album you won’t easily slot into a category, and won’t want to after hearing it.

Blessings Bestrewn Pt. 1 will be available June 20th independently. For more information on Walking Bombs, check out their Facebook and Instagram pages.
