The 398th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist is, like much of the metal community, still reeling from the loss of Ozzy, so soon after a triumphant farewell at the Back to the Beginning event in Birmingham. No figure more defined the rock and roll excess of heavy metal; no voice was as immediately distinct in the genre, and whatever you think of his later years, no one reinvented himself and rolled with the times while remaining as true to himself as the blizzard that was John Michael Osbourne.

One more giant falls, and so this week’s playlist is in tribute to him.
