We’ve got a quick one for ya today, gang. Today Is The Day, the long-running psychedelic metal project from Steve Austin, just dropped Never Give In at the start of October. A five-year gap since No Good To Anyone has officially closed with this first installment of a two-part concept album, with the sister album arriving next year. Better yet, Today Is The Day can be caught live during the upcoming North American run – kicking off on November 12th in Ithaca. The words below might be few, but Never Give In is absolutely packed. So take the jump, hit play, watch some music videos, and we’ll catch ya later this week.

How and when did you first get into playing music, or metal more specifically, and how did your band get its start? Any pushback from family/those close to you?
In 1991, I left for college to put together a band. My family was supportive and cool about it. In less than 2 years, I got signed to Amphetamine Reptile Records.
How would you describe your band and what you play to someone who is completely in the dark?
It’s lite music. Music about being alive and the human existence.
Is there anything about your latest album or about your band that no one will find in any interview or review that you care to divulge?
I wrote all of the lyrics to the album, stream of thought, with no editing.
Any funny stories from playing shows / tours / festivals, etc?
That time I got electrocuted while opening for Motörhead and getting shocked so hard that I shit myself and urinated all over myself. That was pretty funny.
What do you see as some of the great things happening in and around the metal scene (yours or just in general) and what are some of the worst things happening right now?
Lots of people more open minded to new music, and closed minded people who hate each other.
Most folks have passions for a cause or causes that are close to them. What, if any, are some of the most important issues (social/political/humorous/etc.) for you / your band and how do you insert those issues into your music?
I believe in Freedom. Freedom to live the way you want to and to freely speak your mind.
Do you have day jobs or hobbies you want to share?
I’m a gearhead and love working on cars.
What advice do you have for music critics and outlets out there? How can we all better serve the genre in the eyes of a hard-working musician?
Always remember to keep an open mind.
Any specific long term goal(s) in mind?
Making it to my next birthday.
When you’re not obsessing over your own material, what are some of your favorite albums to listen to currently?
“Young Shakespeare” by Neil Young.
What is the near future outlook for you or your band? Any specific events on the horizon that the masses should be aware of?
Going on tour in November and December of 2025.
Summarize your band in one word.
Real.
