The 453rd edition of the Nine Circles Playlist ain’t gonna lie…felt kinda light this week, right? I’m not saying good stuff didn’t drop, or that the stuff that DID drop was bad…I’m just saying it felt like I could breathe for the first time in a while. At least enough to settle in with some stuff I, what? Another Mastodon track!? But I thought I cou…huh? Chat Pile!?!? Can I just have a second? I’m trying to get ready – a week ago I got tickets to see Deep Purple for like $40 and…oh, COME ON!
(yup, I was there. It was amazing, both to witness and to realize that music, absorbed for over 50 years, is a core part of my DNA now)
The 9C office went BUCK WILD this week with the picks…it’s like everyone could finally settle in and see what’s been popping’ in the streets. I heard a kid say that once, but I can’t remember the year. Spirit Possession! Dimmu Borgir Bongir. Early Moods! Uh, Genital Shame? iwrotehaikusaboutcannibalisminyouryearbook….dammit Ian, that’s your 1, dude. Wait until I “edit” your next review…(love you, boo). We also have Phoebe Bridgers. Which means we also have Brandi Carlile. Because listening to “Kill Me” my mind went to Carlile and her recent cover of “Uninvited” from the Newport Folk Festival: a killer cover of a killer song and more evidence Alanis Morissette was, and remains, the best.
state-mandated “Ironic” joke removed at author’s request
Get Listening. Stay safe. See you next week.
