Tengger Cavalry are one of the more interesting bands on the planet. Combining Mongolian Folk singing, Tuvan throat singing and heavy metal the band creates quite an atmosphere. Their live shows are also excellent (we reviewed on here). Their combination of musicianship and charisma (particularly their frontman, Nature Ganganbaigal, interviewed below) are truly unique in their genre. With an exciting and interesting upbringing, a penchant for metal and a nose for his own culture, Nature is truly one of a kind. So follow the jump for his words and thoughts.How did you first get into playing music and have you achieved the level of success that you always hoped to achieve?

Professionally I was accepted as a film music composer master degree student by New York University in 2013. I studied music theory and composition for two years over there and it was the starting point of being a real professional songwriter. I already started to record and perform long before that but the academic experience is def a boost.

Many times. Being a musician in 21 Century means u always need to promote yourself no matter what. Sometimes we sent out demo to bigger labels and never got any reply. And it could become frustrating and personal when people around u tell u that u deserve more than that. But I learned about music industry and how the marketing works so it is all just experience. Bigger-picture knowledge helps relieve the pressure for sure.

Maybe I got great luck or great people, the American metal heads are so far being very nice and sometimes very gentle to us. They always being polite or respectful. We know life is hard and people are all different that’s why we are so far really happy about the scene.

My passions are crossbow shooting, boxing, horse riding and outdoor activities. They are important to me cause we sing about ancient warrior spirit and shamanism. Without those activities I can’t really get to experience the warrior part of me. They somehow keeps my spirit and my music soul alive.

Slipknot got me into it when I was 9 or 10 in middle school. Great sound for a kid living in oppressive society. I got into Mongolian folk during high school.

That people around me kept give me indirect hints that doing this Mongolian metal thing is wasting time and bullshit and no future and no career. It was really hard and still very hard. I guess I am still being stubborn.

Definitely. Musicians work hard on their work and what is worse than critics is the lack of responding. We need review and comment to feel like our hard work is being appreciated.

Yeah I hope sometime TC can become a well known band in both Rock and folk world music communities. I love both genres so it is important to grow our brand as we go. Best Buy Theatre hopefully could be the next within the next couple of years.
