It’s October and officially fall; time for the veil between the dead and the living to go extremely thin, and time for some new Scars of the Flesh…FINALLY! This Texas based melodic black / death metal band will be releasing their third full length, In Darkness Alone on November 18, but today Nine Circles is proud to bring you the lyric video premiere of “Chant For Ezkaton” which as you all know is a Behemoth cover off their 1999 album Satanica. Just as Behemoth did, Scars of the Flesh absolutely crush it and somehow make it their own, but we already knew they would. Give it a watch and listen directly below.

For a little background, Scars of the Flesh formed in 2014 and are based in San Antonio, TX. Their debut Harvest of Souls was released in 2017 with follow up Reaching Into the Void releasing in 2020. Not long after the second album Covid happened and shut down any real plans for touring but didn’t shut down their drive to create new music. Shortly after, they added two members and hit the stage for the Texas version of the Wacken festival and here we are with a new album on the horizon. In Darkness Alone features five brand spanking new melodic black and death metal tracks as well as four intense covers and based on our initial listens, it stands to break the gates wide open for them.
Satanica was a pivotal album for Behemoth and “Chant For Ezkaton” was one of the standout tracks that featured a ton of the dark atmosphere and hard hitting brutality that Scars of the Flesh are known for. Simply put, this is an excellent choice and excellent fit. The mesmerizing guitar flourishes, inhuman drumming, breakneck pace, and the guttural croaks combined with ghastly screeching all combine for a damn good time here.
For a taste, the five original tracks are some of the best the band has ever done; faster, tighter, several levels more brutal, and the songwriting is better and catchier than ever. And the four covers are insane. There definitely was a lot of thought put into which tracks would truly showcase their talents, and they’ve wildly succeeded. True, you’ll have to wait a bit to hear it in full but trust us when we say that the wait will be worth it.
To wrap things up, as a reminder In Darkness Alone will be officially released on November 18 via the band’s Bandcamp page and on all major streaming services. For more information, and to stay up to date, on Scars of the Flesh, give their Facebook page, Instagram page, and YouTube channel a visit.
