cursed imagery

Welcome back, friends! It’s officially November. October is over. Spooky season is over. And we’ve got a whole new month of new, good/bad album art to come. But you know how it goes: we can’t get into that before we review the old month’s good/bad album art! And let me tell you, there were definitely some album covers this past month. So let’s jump in and take a look at ’em!

The Brightly Shining Sea – Dysutopian

I have absolutely no idea what slushie-appreciating TV head here is supposed to represent, but I do get vaguely ’80s-appreciating vibes from this ensemble, so… there’s that?

Soulers – Chapters 21-23

This is one of, er-hem, TWELVE albums released by Quebecois project Soulers this year. They mostly all look like this: a random landscape picture with a nondescript logo set over-top. Any one of them would have done here, but “Chapters 21-23” was the, uh… winner, I guess.

Pounder – Thunderforged

POUNDER? But I barely know ‘er!

Nasty Savage –
Jeopardy Room

I found it. The one gnarled, swords-and-shields-influenced logo that could finally get me to say “wow, guys… maybe rein it in a bit?”

Imprecation of Love –
My Poems Burned Awry

Sad black metal ogre is sad.

Ghetto Ghouls –
Vigilante Crusaders

So Astarion, Bane, and a nun wielding a gun — a “Gun Nun,” if you will — walk into an album cover…

Extorted –
Cognitive Dissonance

So, like… I get what the band was going for with this cover in relation to the album title, but like… that is pretty much the exact expression my dog makes when I’m giving her particularly good head scritches. Try as I might, I just can’t shake that association.

Devilgoat – Halloween Feast

These characters absolutely REEK of “last minute trip to Spirit Halloween to half-ass a costume” energy. I, too, reek of “last minute trip to Spirit Halloween to half-ass a costume” energy. Thus, with Devilgoat, I felt seen.

Hell – Favorite Prejudice

Alright, can someone take me to the hospital? I think I may be having a seizure.

That’ll do it for this month’s spooktacular, mwahahahahaha!

Anyway, sad, totally-forced, Halloween-y joking aside, you know what to do from here: check back next month for the best/worst album covers from November. Plus! We’re only another month after that away from our End-of-Year wrap up! If there are any good/bad covers we missed along the way, make sure to shoot us an email or comment down below. But until next time…

Keep it heavy,
Dan
