It’s another Thursday, so naturally it’s time for us to invade and help clog your assorted social media feeds with more #tbt‘s! Today’s Throwback Thursday content was brought to my attention by the team at This Day in METAL, which y’all really should be following if you aren’t already. At any rate, thanks to TDiM for the reminder that today is Cowboys from Hell‘s 24th birthday!!
It may not have been Pantera’s first album (we KNOW you’re out there, Metal Magic, Projects in the Jungle, I Am the Night and Power Metal!!!), but it did introduce us to the sound we all came to know and love from them in the coming years. (Not to mention the acronym “CFH” tattoo that Phil Anselmo got inked on his own head.) And goddamn if it STILL doesn’t sound incredible all these years later.
So to honor this classic, today’s #tbt won’t bring back its title track. It won’t bring back its best track (“Cemetery Gates”). It won’t even bring back some of its more popular live staples (“Primal Concrete Sledge,” “Domination”). Nope, we’re going a bit deeper. Here’s “Medicine Man.”
Keep it heavy, boys and girls!
