I don’t know if it’s safe to stick my head out of the Jamaican sands and return to the land of normality, but my reservation was up and the folks were getting a little tired of chasing me around the beach as I gulped down every frozen daiquiri and can of Red Stripe I could swipe. Good thing that last day brought musical wonders in the form of new album announcements and singles from two of my favorite recent bands, Wayfarer and Stortregn. Not a bad way to kick off the 294th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist if you ask me.
Oh hey: the new album from Mutoid Man just came out, too, so we’ll toss them in the mix as well as some other stuff has cooking. Like what, you ask? How about new music from Alkaloid, Cult Burial, and Wyrgher? We also have cuts from the likes of Agriculture, Vosbúð, Deafheaven, Part Chimp, and a killer cut from the late, great Sinead O’Connor, ripped from us too soon. We close off the beaten path (well, more than usual – there’s still the obligatory glut of emo from Vince) with another tribute of sorts: a beautiful recently unearthed rendition of “Impressions” from John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy live at the Village Gate as well as a few other surprises buried within.
Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.
