Bludgeoned By Deformity

Supergroup of sorts Bludgeoned By Deformity ( I mean, Sanguisugabogg, Misery Index, Pig Destroyer, Immortal Torment, Tsuris, and on and on…wtf!) combine brutal forces for one lean and mean debut EP, Epoch Of Immorality and holy guts on a stick, what a rush. Five tracks of hammer to the cranium death metal fly by in what seems like seconds due to the nature of this thing; it’s got a wicked rhythm to it that captures the attention and holds it like a drug addict holding their last hit. Vicious vocals, violent riffs, and bone shattering grooves make this one something that you won’t want to miss if you count bands like Pyrexia and Disgorge as faves. Now that we know what we’re in for, we need to know more about the band itself so head directly below and see what guitarist Bradon Studebaker had to say to our Profile set of questions. Be sure to get yourself a copy over at Iron Fortress Records, we’ll link you within.

BLUDGEONED BY DEFORMITY Epoch Of Immorality

How and when did you first get into playing music, or metal more specifically, and how did your band get its start? Any pushback from family/those close to you?

I started out playing metal as soon as I was able to get ahold of a shitty PDP double pedal set. My parents often didn’t understand but always let me do what I wanted. I’m extremely grateful for all the hours they let me punish them by practicing in our basement. Devin and I came up with the idea for this band about a year and a half ago and have since manifested it into existing.

How would you describe your band and what you play to someone who is completely in the dark?

We’re kind of like that band in Ace Ventura but not really (but close enough).

Is there one (or more) thing about your latest / upcoming album or about your band that no one will find in any interview or review that you care to divulge?

My Baltimore community did a lot of work before this was ever a band to make this all feel extremely special and I will always be grateful to them for that.

Any funny stories from playing shows / tours / festivals, etc?

I got to go on tour with Candy last year filling in for my friends’ band and their drummer had two identical pairs of white air force ones. He would change into one pair while he played and then put the other on when he was done again. He’s a really good drummer.

What do you see as some of the great things happening in and around the metal scene (yours or just in general) and what are some of the worst things happening right now?

A lot of people are starting death metal bands right now that we are only seeing the start of and I think we will see a few grow into incredible and long lasting bands with no doubt. I try not to consider the annoying things because it doesn’t really matter.

Most folks have passions for a cause or causes that are close to them. What, if any, are some of the most important issues (social/political/humorous/etc.) for you / your band and how do you insert those issues into your music?

We’re not an overtly cause driven band within the music beyond what is personal to us but I always think playing benefit shows for individuals or communities that need it (the trans community, Palestine, etc) is always special and rewarding. This is all for fun but being able to do something that does real good is never to be discounted.

Do you guys have day jobs or hobbies you want to share?

I like watching people speed run monkey ball, it makes my brain feel good.

What advice do you have for music critics and outlets out there? How can we all better serve the genre in the eyes of a hard-working musician?

I think mean zines written by hardcore kids are extremely lame and obnoxious. I will always appreciate people talking about what they love. Putting people on to things you find special will always do more than telling people why what they like sucks.

Any specific long term goal(s) in mind?

Put out an LP and do at least one full US and Euro tour.

When you’re not obsessing over your own material, what are some of your favorite albums to listen to currently? (Feel free to include non-metal)

I have been listening to the most recent Unknown Mortal Orchestra record a lot. As a fully instrumental and often ambient record, I find it to be a great cleanser for my brain and overall just extremely cool.

What is the near future outlook for you or your band? Any specific events on the horizon that the masses should be aware of?

We are currently working on a split and an LP with sporadic touring plans for the rest of the year. Hopefully more consistent touring next year if the people want it!

Summarize your band in one word. (Disclosure: If you use more than one word, we’ll probably just pick our favorite.)
