CANTO: Zeal & Ardor, Dark Tranquillity, Powerwolf, and More

Dark Tranquillity

Alright, so here’s the deal. I’m drafting this literally 12 hours before posting time. I’m about to hit the road for a long weekend away, but of course as I was doing a morning scrubbing of the inbox I did in fact find a few things worth sharing. Will this miss the overwhelming majority of today’s new? You betcha. Do I care? Not in the slightest. So on that note, what popped up in the first few hours of this lovely Friday?

  • Off to a flying start, Zeal & Ardor dropped the new track titled “Fend You Off”, a visualizer for which can be seen here. Grief is still a couple months away (out August 23 to be specific), but is it just me or have we already seen a good deal of material from that this far out? Note: not a complaint.
  • Out of Hammerheart Records, Ereb Altor released a new single titled “Midvinter”. This is good shit. They’ll be performing at Graspop this weekend, if anyone is fortunate enough to be there.
  • Up next, the latest from Dark Tranquillity. Pre-orders are live for Endtime Signals, which is out on August 16 through Century Media. For another taste of their new album, check out the third single “Not Nothing” here.
  • Powerwolf is always a good time. We’re about a month away from the release of Wake Up The Wicked (Napalm Records), so today they offered up the new track and video titled “Sinners of the Seven Seas”.
  • And to close out, a new clip from Movements. Taken from last year’s album Ruckus! (Fearless Records), “Afraid to Die” can be seen below.

CANTO: Amorphis, Kvaen, Crypt Sermon, and More

I am once again drafting this on my deck next to my dog. Good Tuesday.

  • Sure, we can start with a tour. Amorphis and Dark Tranquillity are co-headlining a run, kicking off in September. Fires in the Distance will be joining them, which makes this a thing I might need to attend. Here’s the full scoop, and tickets go on sale Friday.
  • Swedish melodic death/black outfit Kvaen are releasing their third album, and first through Metal Blade, on June 21. That’s going to be titled The Formless Fires, and a video for the title track is available for your viewing pleasure here.
  • Here’s another Mikael Stanne thing. Well, him and four other familiar names. Cemetery Skyline released a new single titled “In Darkness”, and a video for it can be seen here.
  • For a dose of brutal death metal, we have Severe Torture and their new track “The Pinnacle of Suffering”. That’s the latest from Torn from the Jaws of Death, their sixth album that’s set for a June 7 release through Season of Mist.
  • Closing with the latest new material from Crypt Sermon is the right thing to do. Check out “Glimmers in the Underworld” below. That’s the opening track from their new album, The Stygian Rose, which is out June 14 through Dark Descent Records.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 334 (5.4.2024)

playlist - mixtape

WORMED.

Also, like some Wheel, 1349, Dark Tranquillity, uh, maybe some Dauþuz, Gaerea, something called Castle Rat…some Greet Death, a dash of Agriculture…a tease of Inherits the Void?

I dunno…it’s a whole thing, ya know?

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

Coming in late tonight because, well, it’s Thursday and these things happen.

And now I need to go pack. Until next time!

CANTO: Cattle Decapitation, Dark Tranquillity, The Halo Effect, and More

Go to a wedding, come back sick, get better, go to another wedding, come back sick, get better…

  • Cattle Decapitation have announced the “Death… At Last” tour with The Last Ten Seconds Of Life, Extinction A.D., and Creeping Death. Those are U.S. dates beginning January 18th and running through February 20th. Tickets go on sale this coming Friday at this location.
  • And then we’ll jump over to Pelagic Records, where Som has announced the upcoming release of The Shape Of Everything. That drops on January 21st, and is available for preorder here. Check out the first track, “Animals”, right now at the previous link.
  • Cynic shared a preview of an upcoming new track, titled “Diamond Light Body”, through Season of Mist. That one is taken from Ascension Codes, which is out on November 26th and can be purchased here.
  • This came through yesterday but whatever. Dark Tranquillity are making their return to North America early next year with Kataklysm and Nailed To Obscurity. Tickets go on sale this coming Friday. They’ll be supporting Moment, a very good album… in case you needed a reminder.
  • We’re closing with the first single from The Halo Effect, and it’s titled “Shadowminds”. And I’m not gonna lie, I am really, really happy about it. That project recently inked a deal with Nuclear Blast, but album details haven’t quite emerged yet. We’ll keep you posted.
